Here's what I got-
My main Lighting rig is a basic daylight system using mr photographic exposure control. Final Gather and Global Illumination are turned on.

Here's my problem- whenever I try to render out a lighting pass, diffuse pass, or any other pass I get a really over exposed image.

And on a small note, what rendering elements should I use in mental ray if I'm using arch and design materials?

I guess this is something expected since the exposure comes after the rendering and so not affecting the passes. My guess is that this workflow is not meant to be used when composing the render passes, so a solution could be rendering all the passes in HDR and adjust the exposure in composition.
About the passes, you pick the ones will you need in your composition.

So that why. Guess I'm going to try a different method of lighting. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
