View Full Version : transparent UVs
stallion151 07-19-2003, 12:27 PM hay,
i have an object that has been mapped with a planar projection and when i go to texture mode it appears grey transparent as if there are no uv's.
and the weird i just noticed too is that when i zoom out to about 31 on the camera it changes light grey and when i zoom it goes a golden colour. (any thats not important at the moment)
i have seen on another post about someone having the same diffuculties but couldn't find the post, i replied to that too.
please help.

I'm not really sure, but maybe it has something to do with UV sets? When this happened to my model, it was because I had my UV in a different set, and the default one was empty.

This is a common problem for me as well. There is a simple fix to this. After you set up your UVs, Map them however you choose, then apply your texture, it appears transparent right?
If so, this is the fix....with the material selected (preferably right after you apply the texture) go to WINDOW > RELATIONSHIP EDITORS > UV LINKING > TEXTURE CENTRIC
You will see your material and the object you are applying it to there. select the file in or whatever your using then select the UV map to the right. thats it. your texture should appear.
this started happening in 4.5. I dont know why. Also if you notice the transparent node it AUTOMATICALLY connected to the file in nodes now. I always break that connection. 5 is even worse about this i think.
Everyone goes about it diffrent, and everyone has diffrent problems. It seems like one person can do it one way and it works and another can do it the SAME way and it wont work. I guess that is just the way it flows...
I hope this helps. If anyone else has another fix POST IT! :)

i dont see anything happening in the UV or texture centric editor...i have tried selecting the object and material and the file but still nothing...
checking now i tried to delete UVs and it said there was no UV to delete...so hmmm maybe thats why it wasn't working.
But when i set UVs it still wont appear, am i missing a step with this.
its okay though soon after i wrote this post before i went to sleep, i tried once more and saw in my outliner that when i converted it to a subD then back to poly i still had a tessShape/HistPoly whatever its called.
I deleted these one at a time and reapplied the uv and it worked.
Weird thing was when i deleted it, it disappeared out of the viewport and when i projected UV it reappeared.
well thanks for your replies.
much appreciated.
thanks
