Hi,

my painterly short film "Gul", was finished earlier this month using custom NPR techniques, and is being sent to festivals with the hope of screening it this fall around the world. I'm trying to work out the marketing for it, so your feedback would extremely helpful.

Synopsis:
A painterly tale set in an industrialized wasteland, Gul is a young girl caught in an abusive struggle between survival and compassion. A mother's final breath pushes her to relive the past and stumble forth to determine her future.

This film uses computer graphics to create a painted look. It was scored with traditional Sindhi Jogi folk music and a rich layer of sound design to breath life into a wordless, raw and visually rich story of youth, innocence, greed and claiming the future.

Thanks go out to Suffi Bilal Khalid of the National College of Arts in Lahore, Fatah Daudpoto of Communication Design at the Center for Design Excellence in Jamshoro, Sindh and Saeed Mangi of the Institute of Sindhology in Jamshoro, Sindh for making it possible for me to connect to the right musicians and record their music for this film.

Thanks Rakesh. I really tried to create the feel of a painted film for this piece. I looked more at painters that I really admire, than films for inspiration while working out the style of the film. Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks Kattapoga! It's great to send it out to festivals. Many people have visited the site, but I hope more will let me know what they think of it here in the forum.

It was nice seeing you work at getting that painted look you were trying to get. The look of it is very unique. I like how there's a darkness to it but also a glow to where stuff happens.

This film is so beautifully visually. The characters are also unique in their appearance. Such an amazing painted 3D Animation.

You should put up a CG portfolio here..not only of the stills from this short but also of other types of work you do.
