View Full Version : Streamlined Maya
Say i want to cut maya down to the bare bones, remove un decessary visual fluff and generally stop it being such a resource hog.
Obviusly i can look at what plugins are loaded. However does anyone else have tips on how to streamline maya. :scream:

Run it in commandline only mode..
Wouldn't just buying ram make more sense? How much do you have currently?
Yes of course buying more RAM will help. However tweaking is still good, and its nice to be able to disable features that take up cycles/resources that i will never ever need or use.
I have 512mb currently.

you can turn off the modules -dynamics and paint effects- so they wont load on startup but only if you use them once maya is started...
also multiple undos can slow down maya a bit....so u can set to 12 or 32 or whatever...
Thanks 2bys much appreciated.

Besides disabling plugins the only other things I can think of are to not use the shelves with icons.
I suppose if you really wanted to twaek things you could try to hack the GUI and turn parts of the interface like if you are just modelling you could not load the dynamics or animation menus.. I dunno for the amount of time it would take to figure that out and make it work right in comparison to the cost of adding another 512mb of ram would not be worth my time.

Oh yeah setting a limited number of undos will save memory.. how'd you go about turning off the dynamics and paint effects modules?
