ive checked the search engines here and on google and cant seem to find out how to turn pages.

ive tried soft selections for about 30 min and i can't seem to tweak it the right way, so if anyone has a tutorial on how to do it the same way or other ways, could you post up links here?

i can't seem to find anything after a few hours.

thanks in advance

I think the basic set of tools that MAX gives you are more than up to this task. Here's a possible solution.

1. Create a detailed plane. Say 40 X 40 length, width segments.

2. Move the axis of the plane to one edge.

3. Animate a rotation of the plane 180 degrees around it's axis. So now we have the basic page flip motion.

4. The curling of the pages can be accomplished with a combination of two BEND modifiers. You will need one bend to be curling the page proper and perhaps a second bend curling up a corner of the page. You will need to move the BEND gizmo's around for proper placement, as well as limit the effect until it looks right.

5. Animate the bend strength increasing--->decreasing---->finally reversing at points that make sense during your plane flip animation cycle. You will need to tweak it a bit here and there until you are happy with the result.

That should do the trick and look not too bad if your timeing is done correctly. It's not fancy but it's convincing. Let me know if you have trouble with any of the explanation. Good luck.

I made a very good looking book with folding pagers before by using a morph modifer on a plane sheet and other plane sheets of the exact same topolgy at varios states of a page being turned (like what it would look like as snapshots over time.) and then used them as a reference for the morphing sheet to animate over.

i was going to say a loft, but i reckon googlo's suggestion would work as well
