Hi everybody,

after receiving written permission from Rebecca:) I dare to open up a second thread in this forum. I used to always have one in the WIP-section called 'Malpractice', and this is actually the third by that name. I'm putting it here because this is nicest forum!

I'll try to use this thread to keep track of work on characters and illustrations. More traditional (life) drawing work will be in the other one.
I hope you'll all remember I'm very much a beginner (hence the malpractice) and be nice to me:).

The piece I'm currently working on: 'Poor Snowman':

I have everything on separate layers right now, so if you see anything off: shoot! I don't know about the comp, I'm really bad at that stuff...oh and I desperately need a hair brush (up):).

Face, close-up:

Also some older work from 2007 to give you guys an idea about the direction I want to be going (if someday I get really good...):

Hi Maladie, I like your illustrations - the one of the giraffe on the sheep made me laugh. Great work on that last face! I look forward to seeing more :)

Thanks, Aviva! I like the stuff in your thread too:). And yeah, somehow I seem best with mean pictures...

Rebecca: yep, thats her. A skintone exercise (the ear was 'sewn on' from another picture though:)). Thanks!

And: HELP! My tablet doesn't perform the pen pressure options anymore! When I tick the boxes it says the functions are on (e.g. opacity jitter), yet I don't see the result. Is this an option you can (accidentally) change in Photoshop or the beginning of the end for my Wacom? (PS. for the rest it works fine)

Update: worked on both the faces. Background needs urgent sorting out next.

Phew, luckily the tablet malfunctioning seems temporary..:)

Worked on the comp; trying to convey the idea of the pointless snowshoveling better and enhance the general idea. No wonder I had such bad marks for math, even a simple one point perspective - my first ever - is almost beyond me:). A lot of stuff to figure out: shadows, windows...headaches!

I saw this in a dream - that was weird, the first time something like that happened. It was very complete and graphic, like a finished image by somebody else:), including the colors and the sort of woodcut-look. The birds are terrorised by the rabbit into singing.

Now, the problem ofcourse is to make this look like the image I saw in my dream...
I tried for a quick comp to capture the feeling - the horizon was lopsided, the bunny huge and the viewpoint very low (like from the eyes of another bird). I'm curious to see if I can get this to work!:)

Edit: the lettering wasn't there and needs to go; that corner just looked empty...

I'm still comping this too. I have a real nice idea for this. Since it's hard for me to make this comp interesting, I thought, why not look at the masters for guidance? So I'd love tips on books about that: placing characters (triangles? Not dead centre? That kind of stuff:)), creating tension etc. The last comp gave all the tension away, I felt on looking back, because the snowman's struggle is minimised (he's given in before).

So: BOOKTITLES WELCOME, I'm prepared for some serious study!!:) (and if you don't believe me, check out the finished Ingres-copy in my other thread..:p)
