I can say you are doing a great job even you don't have a tablet. There a few thing I have to say for the picture. one thing is that the shoulder should be higher(even if she is hunching).
Another thing will be that an adult height consists of 7 adult head length, but to me the body seem too tall.
Oh, before I forget keep up the good work, can't wait to see the complete look of your work.
thank you for reply jaucifer,
i think you are right with the height i will correct that,
also the shoulder will correct,
yesterday night i just played with the brushes (doing the hair)
and painted without any imagination what it should be at the end
for me painter 8 is a little more worse than the older releases
(perhabs itīs because of the trail version,....
..it is really hard to find a good brush (or to create a brush...)

I don't use painter, but I do use Photoshop, and I have found that it is good to block in your colours in a more general sense, working on your lighting an proportion first, then you can get fiddly with the details.
I included a rough here, of how I would have approached this, so you can get an idea as to another way to work. After the 3 I have here, I would then start in on details like hair, face, and ruffles on the sleeves.

Well, as I said before, I don't know painter, but I can tell you how I did this in Photoshop, perhaps there are some similar tools in Painter...
I start with the brush tool, and block in the shapes, usually I try for a mid-tone, in other words, a colour I intend to get darker than, and lighter than.
I then darken the image using the "burn" tool. This is a tool in Photoshop that darkens a colour, no matter the colour it is. If there is no equivilent tool, I suggest something like an airbrush tool, with a darker colour chosen.
Keep in mind a direction for the light, in this case, I was intending a fairly front on light, slightly to the upper right.
I then lighten the image using the "dodge" tool. This tool is related to the burn tool, but lightens the image. I highlight the areas that should get the most light, kind of based on what I did for the shadows. Once again, if there is no dodge-type tool, try something like an airbrush set to a lighter version of your colour.
As far as the folds, direction comes with a bit of practice, and with careful observation. Check out some modeling web pages to see how clothes fold over the body. The folds are the best way to show that there is a body underneath the skirt, so have them come off of areas like the hips, or if say, a leg were lifted, you could have lines coming off of the knee.
Keep your lines soft, and with very simple strokes, at least at first. You can always go over it later, and add additional folds, just keep them going in similar directions.
Number one rule, as far as I'm concerned, is to vary the width, and distance between on your folds. If they get to regular, they'll instantly get fake-looking.
Thanks for the compliments, I'm sure you'll get there soon enough as well, just keep practicing!!
;) Oh, and it's Dargon, not Dragon.
sorry for the ... dargon
well i think all the tools u mentioned are also avaible in painter,
