View Full Version : RE: Toon Shading
hyperSHADE604 07-18-2003, 07:01 PM Hi, i am currently working on my reel and i m thinking of using toon shading but i have a few questions regarding this technique and would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me
i was just wondering if the toon shader is dependent upon UV's ?
do i need to fix the UV's to get a go0d result or does it just not matter?:surprised
thank you my friends@
that is all

well, obviously UV's are going to matter if you use any textures (or displacement etc.). But the toon shading will work on any 'plain' geometry...
Usually it is more a matter of tweaking the geometry to make it look right (splitting polys to add a permanent line, smoothing out areas to avoid edge lines etc.).
What renderer are you going to use ?

if any sort of line detection is involved then UV's are the least of your worriwes, worry more about your normals. Time and time again I see bad npr effects using some sort of line detection that could be fixed witha little cleaner modeling and proper normals.
