hi guys,

I hope you recongize my character from the game art challenge. I recently rig and skin weight him for posing. and here are some playblast to see the deformation on him. i know it's kind of hard to see... i will include a larger render later. Please let me know what do you think. thanks :)

Awesome

I hope this is motion capture because if it is hand animated, you are the new god of animation :D

hi guys, thanks for all the comments.

indeed, it is motion cap data on his rig. I rig and skin him in maya, then test the deformation in Motion Builder. Instead of spending hours animating him, I just apply a mo-cap clip on him so I can see if the skinning were fine.

I have NO intention to show off the animation (I should have noted that it was mo-cap data). Like I said, I am only interested in seeing the deformation after being animated. sorry for the confusion. :p

Work like this is inspiring.
I was constantly impressed watching it unfold on the comp thread.

Just out of curiosity, what did the end polycount turn out to be?

Also great textures as well.
You my friend should write a few tutorials me thinks.

Hi there! Im new here but i was following that thread and man... its A REALLY COOL CHAR!!! :applause:
I really really love it, its very well done, the skin, the animation, the size, the polycount! Everything is professional!

NOV, I know you will be creating very cool models, and this model is almost perfect i love it.

What are you going to do with the model? Are you going to share it or anything? Are you going to animate it, use it on any game? Making any other animation? Keeping it for you? Making a CG? Maybe making a tutorial of every part of the model would be cool and could help a lot of people to be working on gaming modeling :)

ps: BTW we are doing a game, but still at the begining, hehe, if you want we could use that char and put it somewhere in a city hehe it looks so cool, he can be there sitting in a chair having something lol I like it a lot. XD Our animators could animate it, and we could put it as a challenger for the game heros :P hehe only one idea :) you can take it as a joke if you want ^^ np

thanks for the comments, guys!! :D

baaah888> I am glad you mentioned FF because it is one of the titles that influence my design the most. I am glad you liked it :)

caustic> let's see. the final poly counts is somewhere around 5500 tris. I could have bring the poly count down more but since I have finished the uv layout (took me a while to accomplish that)... However, I did enjoy painting the textures. It turned out just the way I wanted :D

I don't think I am good enough to write a tutorial yet but I would share my experience on what mistakes and tips I learned through the process of making Ciel. Since I have never model in poly before, I lreaned a great deal of knowledge just by finishing this project.

Bahamut2> thanks for the comments, bahamut2 (cool name, btw). I will be utilizing this model (plus others I am making right now) for my demo reel which should be done in few month from now. I hope this will get me a job in game industry. I have been able to spend some time to set him up for animation as you have seen. this should be fun when other characters are done. :)

Please drop me a line if you would like to use Ciel H. in your game. thanks!

Lol! No kidding it just looks great!
I like this character a lot, its reallly good for games.
For our game we are trying to make characters like this, if you want, i would like to know the way you did your textures, its the most important part for the final model

About the game, we are still with the first scenary and i think we are going to spend a lot of time till the game is finished... so we'd better wait some months before setting up anything ^^ but when the first scenary is over, you can send me some renders and i can put them over the scenary to see how Ciel looks running out there - hehe funny
Anyway we would be makin our own characters, the style you did ciel, but i dont know if we can master those textures the way ou did.

Thanks for replying!
