View Full Version : matterwaves help
i am trying to do a scene where a person is spray painting on a wall . i want the wall to be brick. when the person starts painting the bitmap i would like to use, i want the wall to fly off in chunks with matterwaves to reveal a logo, the bitmap underneath. i also would like the pieces of wall to fly off in random fragments and bounce onto the ground. i would like to control the wall shards with a light and its cone. as the cone will determine the precise points of the wall shards. When the shards come to rest i need them to be real geometry ,not instances, so i can export to real flow for the final shot. i have seen this done in another scene by whom i forget. is this doable. i hope someone can help me out with this.

I would try this post on postforum
Although there are definitely some great technically experienced animators here, (including Maxon people like Srek and Maxon 'ex"Mash, among others), postforum seems to lean more towards the technical aspects of animation and you may get a quicker response on those type of questions. :)

Hi,
should be doable with TP. Try it by combining PFragment to create the brickwall and PLight to check if the particles are hit by the light.
You can find a quick and dirty example here: http://www.bonkers.de/download/tpwallexplosion.zip
Hope this helps
Srek
thanks all. that example is almost exactly what i am looking for. allbeit gravity and ground deflection, but that shouldn't be too hard to add. i will check the forums you posted also. look for my animation coming soon, i hope.

this might be closer to what your looking for.

big pig i downloaded that scene. unfortunately i can't make heads or tails from it. i'm quite the novice when it comes to particles and thinking particles and/or expressions. thanks though. i will be studying that scene more to try to handle the concepts.

Hi,
don't put to much effort in it. Michael created a great animation but the setup is pretty complicated and more grown (read: mutated) then planned ;)
Try to start with simple setups and combine them later to something more complex. Use XGroups and/or different Xpresso tags to keep your setup clean and understandable.
I wouldnt' recommend Michaels Setup to anyone for learning purpose. Take a look at it once you have mastered Xpresso and TP by yourself to get an impression how others solve their problems.
Cheers
Srek
yeah that's what i am hoping to do, keep it simple. i'll let you know how it goes.
