bcole23 07-18-2003, 06:00 AM Just starting on some models for a Japanese scene I'm doing. This is the Katana, tell me what you think..

(the room this resides in was just something I got from a benchmark scene, it's not mine and is only used to reflect something.)

could u made that render alittle more clear....that we could see better...i see there's a goo sword model in there, but i can't see much of it, because of that scene background thing....

looking good:thumbsup:
the blade seems to have an "S" curve to it on the back edge... I think it's because the background is making an optical illusion causing the blade to look warped.
coul we see a render without the background?

I'll get around to setting up the background when I get back from camping in wonderful Yellowstone park.
I've basically just got some tweaking to do and then I get to start modeling nihon no heya. (Japanese rooms)
I'm going to use the 'model all your props and then the environment' way of doing things..
Will try to update in a while, thanx for the comments!

I'm back with an update, not much of an update, but an update non-the-less.
(Work courtesy of a broken toe keeping me from going to work. )

(Background is temporary and just a place holder. Not my pic)

Very Cool!!! :applause:
The seating area would look great with a nice light colored natural wood grain texture.
Keep 'em coming

Hi there.
As I collect nihon-to in real life, I guess the first thing I noticed was the way the blade is positioned. Generally with a highly polished katana the blade would not be allowed to just lay on the ground like that as even the smallest amount of dust can potentially scratch the blade (the cost and time involved in getting a katana professionally polished is huge), not to mention that any moisture in the gravel could also start rust. Usually a little fabric roll, or pillow would be placed under it to avoid such problems.
Also, in the first pictures (in the reflective room) I would tweak the Brass material on the Habaki (collar at the top of the blade) a little bit as it looks a little too yellow to me.
Apart from that, it all looks to be coming to gether quite nicely. I like the outdoor setting a lot.
Cheers:)

Thanks for the replies! In the first pic, I didn't have the map on the brass part, it was fixed but you can't really see it in the others.
I placed the katana on the ground like that just to irk my friend over on maxforums.org. I would never do that in real life! The scene composition is not really there yet. I'm still modeling (and texturing, which should come afterwords.....).
I will be doing the full Japanese house, I'm just starting in the interior garden. I'll be adding the fountain and plants next, then moving on to the adjoining rooms.
I'll be fixing the granite rocks too. Just gotta get time.....
