View Full Version : Blend shape problem, please help
Hi, I'm creating blend shapes for my character and I have come up with a problem that I can't seem to figure out.
I have made all the blend shapes by the duplicating the main model, and then I tried to test it out ( pick blend shape, then character then create deformers, blend Shape). But when I move the control(Window,Animation Editor,Blendshape), the actual polygon character moves to the blend shape position, instead of just creating the proper expression.
I'm sure I did something wrong on my way to creating these, but I am far in the process(because it worked before), so If possible I want to avoid redoing the expressions. Is there a way to fix this, or is there no way to save them?
Thanks :D

no reply? Oh come-on people.
check your settings/options? Were you using world or local origin?...Or, did you freeze transformations on the duplicated model?

did you freeze the transformations?
thank you for being nice and responding. I did Freeze the transformations for both blend and original. I also accidently centered the pivots for all of them(since my hotbox was right next to each other). I am guessing that was the culprit, but I am unsure of how to fix it. I also checked the settings, and they are all local origin. Since I had that suspicion, I took the center pivot of each blend shape and set it to the original pivot of the original model as an attempt to fix it, but it didn't work.
Thanks to joel3d and Leffer as well for responding. I appreciate the help, and if you guys might know, please let me know.

that sounds correct, Not sure what happened.
put all of the objects are in the same position then freeze transfomations on them, move the pivot points to match the original.
I tried what you did and did not work. Thanks for the attempt though. It seems I'm going to have to do the shapes again. If anyone knows of another way please let me know. Thanks again.

You could try this method:

Let me know if its not clear.

BICA: I think you don't have typology problems, all you have to do is changing the pivot. You can do this to check if the models are correct.
Choose one point that is not going to be moved when apply blendshape. Use the component editor to get the position of this point on the original and one of the blendshape targets. Then minus the translation of the entire model from the position of the points. Compare the result of the two points to see if they're the same, if not, the difference could also be used to fix the pivot.

When I go to make a blend shape I just duplicate the model and move it to the side. I don't mess with putting the pivot back at the origin and I don't freeze transforms, as that will cause problems. But I have all the pivots of my models that have the blend shapes on at the center of those models and it hasn't caused any problems.

Hi
here's the other way that you could do damage control, I remember I also did this when I made the same mistake. Remove the Blendshape History from your base mesh, Centre Pivot on your base mesh and your blendshapes, ...then snap or point constrain your blendshapes with maintain offset off, freeze transformation on your blendshapes and move them to the side and DO NOT Freeze Transformations, re-apply them as Blendshapes to see if the same problem persists.
Hope it works...
I am going to try them and see what happens. I will post back with results. But thank you guys for being incredibly nice and posting ideas.

:argh: I fogort to write that when you point constrain, you point constrain your blendShapes to your base mesh..so sorry for this but I still hope it works...
So I tried everyones stuff out, and came to a slight different conclusion.
If this happens to anyone just do this
Get blendshapes and turn on Vert mode. Snap to original mesh precisely. Then turn on object mode and move it to the side.
Thanks to everybody who helped again! With out you guys I would have not gotten that far! Thanks again!
