Hello,

Working on a lamborghini carpaint. I have identified some facts about the paint but require some help how to put it into vray.

The material seems yellow diffuse colour with shiny/half matte shader (creating metallic effect) + highly glossy coating material.

you can blend different glossiness material into single material by using VrayBlendMtl.

It seems I would need a base material and a coating material. The coating material is quite easy. The problem is that the base material seems to have a bright shader but very little reflection. It seems that in vray you can adjust the reflection and shading glossiness, but not reflective levels? This is more the problem, do you not agree? Or can you change the reflectiveness independantly of each other?

The reflectivity level is actually control by the reflect color. Black means no reflectivity at all and white is mirror effect. If you have enabled the fresnel, and your color is set to white but you still want more reflectivity, then you can click on the little "L" beside it to enable the Fresnel IOR, in which larger value give you more reflectivity.

If you want more control of the fresnel reflection, then assign a falloff map into the reflection slot, play with the color and curve to control the angle and amount of reflectivity.

The specular level is actually called Highlight glossiness in Vray. So to manually control that, simply click the "L" button beside it and you can control the specular regardless of glossiness setting.

It looks like a matte/glossy paint when the normal is facing the camera, and more reflective on the the falloff as you go towards the sides.

Why not try to control your Rglossiness for a start, by using a falloff map so that the paint looks more glossy/matte as it is facing you and turns reflective on the sides.

To get some interesting results try to use shellac for your paints, the base layer will be the inner base coating (set diffuse to black) with a falloff reflection and a falloff on the glossiness, which you then blend with a shellac on top. The shellac can have different reflections and it will define the paint colour of your object.
