kind of basic....

i have a character that is one mesh, and i wanna do some facial shape animation. now, say i wanna do 2 shapes, frown and smile for example, i dont want to duplicate the whole mesh to make just facial shapes, i believe there is some way that i can just duplicate the head and then save them as the shapes instead of the whole body.....can anyone tell me how?

cheers

If you create a cluster of the head portion, then you can store shape keys on only the cluster.

But AFAIK for this to work, you have to either modify the original mesh, or duplicate the whole mesh for each shape. The keys will be created only on the cluster (the rest of the mesh will be ignored) but you still have to have the whole mesh when modifying the head portion. If you seperate the head, then the point order of the mesh will change, and the shape won't get applied to correct vertices.
