Ok, first off, I would greatly appreciate constructive criticism and any tips are welcome!

Here's some recent stuff that I did in my sketch book, these were studies after reading a bit of figure drawing for all its worth by Andrew Loomis.

Here's some stuff I did on photoshop today. Photo reference for the painted one. The hands on both of them are screwed up.

Hey Luke,

Nice to see you start a thread :) - I'd download the first gesture DVD as soon as you can and watch that. I think it will fundamentally affect the way that you draw:

That's supposed to be a master copy.

Not bad - I'd say to really buckle down and study proportions. Typically a standing figure is about 7.5 heads tall - the legs of the main figure are too short, and the best way to get a feel for proportions is to do a few exercises where you trace master works or photos that don't have distortion to see what the actual proportions are. There are also plentiful reference books that have proportional charts in them that can help.

I'd stick to drawing using traditional media if you can - one thing that's tough to avoid doing is outlining things too heavily. Try to think and draw across the form as much as up and down the sides. You might even avoid shading at this point - or to improve the shading, curve it somewhat to follow the contour of the form. Have you ever done cross contour drawings? Those are extremely useful exercises which I would recommend to anyone with an interest in drawing:

Master copy

I'll try to stop drawing on the computer for awhile and use pencil, its so much fun to draw on the computer though =/ When the vilppu comes, I'll kind of be forced to use paper.

Some arm studies, I didn't focus to much on the hands, just the arms. I used my artistic anatomy book for reference.

I've kind of been busy with finals and stuff the last few weeks but now I'm free! Here's some stuff I did over the past few weeks. Oh yeah, I finally got the Vilppu DVD on gesture.

I sketched this is photoshop and then painted it in painter. I know, the feet are messed up and his legs and pants look funny I think. :hmm:
