Hi all. First let me say that from the time I have visited these forums I have seen nothing but the best of the best Artist's and Modelers show off some great works and all acting polite to eachother.I have yet to see a flame or any "spam" or any negitivity.

I love this place and respect all of the great artist's that frequent the forums.

I myself am not totally new to 3ds max but have no proper schooling or training. But I'm sure many other of you all learned on your own ;)

My question is simple. How many years have some of you been doing modeling ( in any program ) ? and what would you say is the ammount of learning and dedication you have spent?

I have been modeling on and off for about a year, and am pretty "green" still. But I expect that, modeling is a hard to learn art and the tools are quite complex.

So if anyone would like can you post some of your pic's of things you did as you progressed?I am curious as to see how you all advanced and compare my own progress to see if I'm lagging :p

Thanks for any input.

Hi! I started out with 3ds Max in february this year. No proper schooling or training here either. ;)

I've been hanging around at CG Talk for a couple of months, I love this place. Keeps me going.

Pretty hard to estimate how much time I have spent with 3ds. But 2-3 hours per day would be pretty accurate I'd think.

Oh, and the progression.
This is my first model that looked like it was supposed too. It was made 16 days after Max was installed on my computer.

My first head. 18 days after installation.

This is where I'm at now. An Audi TT. Only the materials that aren't finished.

your question is simple, but not the answer... I think that depends totally on the person, I saw amazing work from starters, and a good cg education can make tons of diference. I´m learning in my house from many years, the 3d is like a hobby for me since 1996, and after nine years I still suck agains professionals or people with a good cg education. you can take a lot to my works here:

Wow, cool stuff guys.

and plague you dont suck at all.

I myself was never and still am not trying to make photo realistic pic's like some of those pro's you speak of.I'm more of a level designer. But as for your work, your up there with them in my book.

And Primitive, your work is great for the time you spent.I went from the tutes that come with max ( half of em anyway ) Straight to tooling around with my own junk, and haven't made anything solid such as you have ;)

I make archway's and sometimes import/export level layouts from within UED with the undying tool, in t3d format.

But making characters and stuff you guys should be proud. Keep up the good work :)
