Hello,

I am using maya and have set up some cartoon eyes using lattices for stretchy deformations.

i have aim contrained the pupils to control objects and parented the lattices to the main head bone.

It all work fine except for the pupils contained in the lattices dont aim back toward the control objects when the lattices move with the head.

I mean, if you move the eye controls, the pupils follow, but if you move the lattice away from the centre, the pupils remain centered in the eye, rather than retaining the aim toward the eye controls becuase in effect it is treated as if the eyeball isnt moving becuase the lattice is moving it.

Does this make sense?

basically i want the pupils to back aim toward the control objects when the lattice moves. Does anyone know a solution to this?

Thanks

I'm not sure what version of Maya you are using, but one thing you could try is to parent the lattice base to the head (ffd1Base by default). If you don't do that then the lattice base is going to be stuck in world space and it won't deform the object when the object is moved away from it's origin of creation.

I've also had success in the past by making the pupil a separate piece of geometry and creating a joint system to float it over the top of the cartoony eye. That way you dont' have to deal with lattices.

Hope that helps.
