Hi guys, welcome to the Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club thread.

The idea of this series of week long threads is to be an incubator for your sequential
art ideas. This mean you can post ANYTHING that will facilitate the creation of your comic. (This means ideas, scripts, Concept Art, Finished art ) for:

One panel Strip
Three to Four Panel Strips
Comic Book
Storyboards (NEW!)
Think of it of a club within the forum for people who WANT to do comics.

GENERAL RULES:

Every Wednesday night a new week long thread will be posted on the CGTalk Daily Sketch Forum (http://forumdisplay.php/?f=130) called:Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club XXX: MONTH YEAR

This will be the CORE thread, created by the moderator, (that would be me)

You can post on the core thread anything you want as long as it related a to a sequential art idea
If yo ualready have a web comic, well SHOW IT to us..
WIP entries should be on the artists WIP thread. This thread might be hosted on the WIP forum OR...the Member SKETCH Collection (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=272)
This is a thread to allow creators to have fun so please feel free post your Comments
IF and only IF we gather enough interest we might start doing voting for:

Best Writing
Best Story
Best Art
Most Updates
Most Views (IE Highest ratings: I want to keep track on who has been getting the highest number of hits on the WIP thread for the comic...more on this later
Keep this in mind.
A monthly comic book has 24 pages. And in order to have enough material for a graphic novel you should need to do 6 issues of a comic.

24 * 6 = 144 pages

This is why most pros do a at least a page a day.

And please if you do comic book, do it in multiple of 2.
Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club 010: December 10 - 16 2008
Hi guys, welcome to the Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club thread.

My advice, KEEP IT SIMPLE

If you think you can't to a full comic book, do a 3 - 4 panel
newspaper strip. 5 - 10 updates a month are more than enough in my book.
And if you are going to do a comic book, do short stories first , since they usually have
4 to 6 pages. Think Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt or Amazing Stories for inspiration.
Good luck

Sounds to me like it should be it's own sub forum. However, I'm not sure why exactly, but I don't really understand this thread here exactly. Sounds a little bit like a showcase for comic related work from us, regardless as to when it was done? More like a gettogether of comic creators, departing from the whole idea of daily sketches?

I'm just curious, because it sounds interesting. Once upon a time I wanted to make comics, too. Eitherway, I apologize for asking, but I'm really curious.

HajTekk,

I like the panel design, perspectives and rhythm a lot. The colouring is not my favourite, but I guess it's got to do with the title?

Does Peleng continue his storyboard/comic, btw? I loved the drawings in that comic!

Here's more exercises, architectural/background first, along with trying to simplify the lines by knocking various parts into shadow:

and next one:

This exercise in Shawn Martinbrough's book is called "two-shot".

The task is to show two people in dialogue while minding the following things:

- one in the foreground, one in the middleground
- consistent lighting
- background with texture

these are from imagination without ref. As Martinbrough puts a lot of emphasis on reference (as does every good drawing teacher, I guess - hello Rebecca :D ), I will go and take a few of these from imagination level to more refined level by supporting character creation from ref.

Here's the first level:

@Mu

Yeah the coloring is like this because of the title (and the title is like that because of the coloring :D ), however I'm still experimenting with it as I'm not completely satisfied how it looks right now since this is my first comic. I also need to work on the story, I don't even know the name of the main character (even though it's me under that mask;))

By the way, interesting exercise with architecture and shadows, I should start doing that!

Mu, what's the title of the book by Shawn Martinbrough? Is it for comic creating?

can't believe it googled it after posting this...I googled it...is it the Noir book?

lol, yes. It's the noir comic book.

You would have to find a book on how to learn to draw separately, though, in case you need that, too, because it's solely on how to apply a particular style to drawings.

But it's a definite recommendation!
