View Full Version : Good vs Evil
DreamMaster 05-13-2009, 11:01 PM Hi,
Before I begin, you all rock! ;) Anyways, I'm hoping to hear other people's view on this... I like how it is going, but I feel the composition is a bit off or something, the balance is not quite there as i want it to be. I also want to make it realistic, yet surreal.
It is about The lurking evil dark elves? and a good elf having to steal their dark side armor and weapon in order to survive. And once twilight comes, they lurk for 12 hours, trying to attack all good force, destroying them.... the good elf has no choice but to defend by using dark force against dark side.
What the heck, I'm not good at story telling! But at least, I believe this picture speaks more than 1,000 words anyways.
Maybe you can help me out? Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
P.S. It's not done. Still a WIP... but I will be unable to work on it for a bit due to the surgery I'll be having, but please don't hesitate and help me out. ;) It's for the contest I'm entering and I'm determined to push my limit here. Thanks again!

Hey, hope the surgery goes well and very nice work so far. The image does feel a little stiff for such an action packed scene. It might be that the lines of action in the character are not going in the same direction. For example the arms, upper body and lower body are all going in different directions which does't allow the eye to flow in the direction of the action. Also, her expression and body language seems a little calm for such a tense moment. Just my opinion. Other than that what you've painted is very well done.
Good luck!

the composition is alright, I still able to look at her at the first moment but she needs to have a little bit more value to show her quality so the viewer eyes will not be distracted.
I think her eyes is a bit off.
great piece, keep it up!

I see the good! Where's the evil? Perhaps you haven't gotten there yet.
If the composition that we see is the final one, perhaps experimenting with her facial expressions would help convey the evil presence our young elven hero is squaring off against. I just get the emotional feeling that she is complacent, or half cocky.
Abosolutely wonderful colors! I can't wait to see how you finish this piece.

Hey everybody,
Thank you sooo much for your critiques! I'm recovering from the surgery and am doing fine. Maybe if I still feel ok, I'll work a bit on it some more today.
Line of action with anatomy is still something I have yet explored fully in my book, however, I'll take a look at that and see if I can fix it. I think upper part looks fine to me with an exception, facial expression. You got a good point there. ;)
Her lower part bugs me more though, I wanted to make her look like she's hopping on rocks effortlessly, she's an elf after all, they're pretty good at that, right eh? I don't know if I did legs and stuff right though. Her outfit is supposed to be evil and on your right, there's a "hidden" glowing eyes representing a evil presence lurking. See it? Maybe it's not that obvious? Mmm...
I really want to bring good vs evil together and make it easy to see and to understand. I'll experiment with what you all have suggested and see if I make it better, or worse... lol.
Thank you very much again, I'm glad you all like it! :D

Here's my update:

No watermark this time, but please don't steal it. :P I'll be more than happy to help you out if you struggle anyways. ;)
I struggle with legs.. argh, also facial expression, I haven't determined one yet.. I have made her frown a bit and added some more details... played with leg position and still haven't found any successful position for it. As I said earlier, I suck at anatomy and line of action because it hasn't been explored. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hey there,
this actually looks really beautiful (wow!). You're right about the legs, something looks offf there, so I stood up and tried to stand just like her. I realized the other legs needs to come to the front in order to support her pose. Maybe something like that:

Hi there,
I'm about to head to bed now, but I wanted to post quickly to say thanks for your tip echom, that drawing actually helped! I'll explore what I can improve on when I feel well enough.
I was in too much pain today to be in mood for art, but I wanna work on it asap though. ;)
Thank you again! :) Have a great night,
