View Full Version : buy 3dsmax online
Frank_3D 07-17-2003, 06:50 PM Hi,
I have a question. I am from Germany and I was wondering if I can buy a 3dsmax 5 from an US online store.
I am not quite sure about it, but for me it looks like 3dsmax is far cheaper in the US than in Germany (Here it is 4250 Euro, which is about 4760 US$).
If anybody could tell me the actual price of 3dsmax 5 (Standalone version) in the US and the URL of an US online store, this would be nice.

It might be possible, but I think Discreet trys to keep purchasing to regional distributors. For example, when I moved across the US I could no longer use my old Discreet dealer because I was out of his region.
I'm not sure how they handle it overseas though.

If you order the item, always ask for the competitive upgrade price. I have heard that the price in California is hovering closer to $2500 US, so ask for a similar offer. Find about all special offers and bundling deals, even if the reseller has to get on the phone and see if anything will change in the future.
Tell them you have lightwave, Maya, XSI, whatever to get the lowest possible price.
I would send an email to the Cebas office to see if the can recommend someone over in Germany. They should have an idea where Max users/sellers are located.

Agreed, according to my calcs that's about $600 - $1000 CDN ($450-$750US) too high. Maybe more.

Max in Europe is relatively higher in price than in the US and is one of the few that still is. However.. assuming that you do find a way of purchasing online check out what the likelyhood of recieving a duty/tax bill relevant to your country of habitation is. :)

It's been a while since this happened, but I believe we tried to do this also, and we didn't get anywhere. Discreet pretty much makes you get the software from your area, for support reasons. But as Pixelmaestro said, you can always try and claim the best price out there. Discreet can be quite flexible with their prices if you are seriously interested in getting it.:)

yeah it sucks being EVEN MORE expensive over the pond..
discreet will barter on price...the first copy i got i chose between 10% off or clothreyes...find 3 dealers and learn to wind them up...you'll soon see the prices falling...subs is a different matter, they dont shift on that...they will on upgrades especially if you order multiples (i know u arent, someone maybe)

Thanks guys,
it seems to be this way, that I have to buy my 3dsmax version here in Germany. But after browsing the forums I think I will wait until Discreet will lift the curtain of their new 3D program in a few days.
Maybe there are also some changes in pricing policy afterwards.

They just suddenly drop the price from 5000 to 1000€
This drop was to compet with AE. Just Hope Discreet have seen Maya and lw price and would compete also :D

..er not quite like that... they released Combustion 2 on an offer then put the price up rather a lot (can't remember exact figures)... eventually the price did drop to being 'competitive' with what is considered the main competition. :)
