View Full Version : retiming particle simulations - scaling?

Hi

I've got a fairly involved particle simulation that takes place over about 700 frames. I need to retime it to take place over about 100.

What is the best way to retime the sim? It involves about 5 particle systems all delicately balanced with over a dozen fields. Changing the settings on a field changes that part of the system completely.

Are there any mel scripts around that deal with particle system retiming?

I thought that baking the simulation and then scaling the keyframes might be a good way to do it also.

Sim it out and then muck with the time node, to speed it up 7x fast?

Alternately, you could either do a whole lot of messy MEL coding, find some magic solution with the Trax editor (I haven't used it), or retime it all in Houdini (which I hear is pretty simple).

In 2009+ you can scale, cycle, hold, trim, split, merge, and blend nParticle caches using trax.
