View Full Version : Are there Realistic Human Skin Tutorials?
Robato 07-17-2003, 04:08 PM Are there any tutorials on the internet about realistic skin such as these examples?

I am mainly concerned about skin tone....I know how to make bumpmaps, specular maps etc. (Is the guy painting the skin tone? Is he using that layered shader with a cartoon shader underneath trick?)
Anyway I suck, please help!
Please list any skin shader and texture links you may have please

Robert, you're not far away at all. Although I think the saying goes something like "the last 10 percent takes 10 times longer than the first 90 percent," meaning that it takes exponentially more effort and time the closer you get to reality.
Anyhow, I think what you should concentrate on is your lighting, and your shader (not texture) settings (specular, reflection, diffusion, sub-surface scattering, etc).
Lighting and shader settings are perhaps the most essential part of making realistic skin, in my opinion.

Crapstick,
WOW! That is one of the best texture tutorials I have ever seen in my life! Thanks for the link....I have never seen this site. Got anymore amazing tutorials such as this one?
Posm,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I absolutely agree that I neglected a few things here and there on the shader network. I will get to them...I was more concerned with the skin tone as mine seems just a little too red or washed out no matter how much or how little I tweek it. I really need to get in there and start messing around with the bump and specularity maps though.
That tutorial that crapstick posted will gave me some ideas on how to go about it better too. I seem to do things the hard way.
Anyway thanks for the links guys...keep em comming if you got em!!!
