View Full Version : Beanstalk
Kesdjan 05-12-2009, 04:51 PM Beanstalk.... Done in PS and Painter. I'm not satisfied with the result though and keep messing with it. If anyone has comments and criticisms I would greatly appreciate it. I think that there is some fundamental that I'm missing.

Hi Kesdjan,
maybe you're missing a concentrated light source? If I squint my eyes nothing really 'stands out' from anything else. The whole looks a bit like a collage, there's no 'unity' and I think it might be a lighting issue. Just my 2 cents..:)
For the rest great work, some parts even look like a photograph somehow!

That's a good point about the light source! I think that might be making it seem collage like... I've been thinking that I've gone a bit overboard with blending the girls flesh... I stayed pretty close to a reference photo (of a friend) but it lacks texture (especially the small version).

I've repainted some areas that seemed to be part of the problem... Both legs, I dropped the harp because it looked clunky, hands, and finally I adjusted colors in PS...
The light source really was not defined well. That was just me being lazy in the beginning and not sorting that out. Lesson learned since it has probably taken lots longer to handle that now then it would have early on.

I think it looks better, more natural at least.
If anyone has advice...
