Hi! Nice start:thumbsup:
I'm Japanese and now I'm just watching Gundam first series and modeling my model. This reminds me new Gundam series, I like Gufu in first series though, nice Sazabi!
Keep good work!;)

Awesome work Darakusan:buttrock:

I love mechs.

could you post your reference as well? I think that some of your edges are a little sharp, but if the reference has them that sharp than I guess it's not a big deal.

keep it up:D

Darakusan
07-18-2003, 02:25 AM
R-Sin : Yeah, it do looks like one.

SHozo : Thanks for your comments!

Unicron : Thanks and i loved mechs a lot too :). And yupz the edges are sharp as i've not chamfer them yet, for easy editing purposes.

Keep the c&c coming. I'm currently working on the mid section body.
But i'm a slow slow guy.

Anyway here's how a Sazabi look: A real beauty

hey darakusan,

nice work... although it looks kinda like you made it a little too "fat" in the belly area. Looking at the reference, the top chest section juts out a lot further from the abdomen area than you have it. That peice may need to go farther, or the ab area in a bit, or a combination of both.

Keep up the good work!:D

waaaaaaaaaaw Darakusan.

long time no see ,, :p

i am suprised with your model, actualy i tried to model sazabi. but i found it a littel difficult to me.

your model is awsome bro, keep going and let me see how it will be look like ..

Darakusan
07-27-2003, 11:03 AM
Unicron - yeah, i'm having a hard time to model that area.... but you see carefully, the ref is lacking a small plate, that's why it looks deeper in ;), the plate right above the belt.

aljoker - hiya! from what i see, i will have lots of difficulties in modeling the sazabi as compared to hi-nu... but i will try my best.

- Here my latest progress -
http://darakusan.simplehost.com/sazabi/2707.jpg

C&C pls.
Pardon me, as i spend little time modeling compare to playing games.. therefore i have pathetic progress.

unicron
07-28-2003, 12:37 AM
Yeah, I was looking at that grayscale reference and I wasn't sure if that peice was on there or not (apparently it isn't:p ). Anyway I was looking at the image of the whole model kit or toy image that you posted earlier and it looks like the torso peice in question is a little bit more pointy and slightly longer than you've got.

Also, I notice that the gray peice that lines the edge of the red (in the same location) comes out further as well. It is also overlapped more by the lower front red peice. Hope that makes sense... anyway just check that image to see what I'm talking about for the gray peices on the side of the torso.

The newest update is looking awesome:thumbsup:

I can hardly wait to see more...

rock on:buttrock:

07-29-2003, 07:31 AM
man, i just LOVE these kinds of models!! Too bad i dont get to see ANY anime other than Pokemon and Dragonball in my country!! Well, the model is doing great, I like the way you managed to make the soft edges look, thats a modelling nightmare!! I think that your model is a bit low polygon though.

Part of what makes your model look kinda low poly is the fact that you made everything a panel, whereas your reference picture of the model of sasabi is smoother at areas. Like the "wings", they are much smoother, as well as other areas, giving an interesting specularity to the model, making it in all more interesting to look at. Also the shoulders, notice the difference of yours with the ones on the reference photo.

The overall work is great, you have the form, you have to give it the feel.

Keep it up!!!

Darakusan
07-29-2003, 07:47 AM
Unicron - i'm working on those areas now.. kind of hard to get the exact scale is my ref pic is quite poor...

David - maybe i can finish it this yr hahaha. i'm using 3dsmax 4

diazgl - yeah, i tried not using any meshsmooth on my model. so far none is use.. the shoulder block is not yet complete. as you can see i have not chamfer the edges yet.. will still be working on it.

Thanks for the crits! it will help me make the model better!:applause:

Some small updates.

- I reduced the front red segment

- I did the back flap together with it's detailing.. (ignore the bare back) Yet to work on the backpack

- Did the shoulder pad

- Added some exhaust..

That's all... very slow progress

Looking great!:buttrock:

I think the hands look a little odd though. Perhaps the thumb is too far to the end of the hand... or there isn't enough space between the connection of the thumb to the hand and the connection of the fingers to the hand.

DreamcastDC - Thanks

Unicron - Yeah.. that's y i said i don't like the hand.. haha guess there's no short cut :p how to remake one.

Anyway this hand is poorly made.

dom - thanks and nice to see you again fellow singaporean:buttrock:

unicron
08-02-2003, 03:28 AM
I know you didn't like the hand but instead of totally redoing it just make the palm section longer... Look at your own hand and you can see that the thumb comes out of the side of the hand while the fingers come from the end. On the model, you've got the thumb right next to the pointer finger: that's why it looks odd.

hope that helps:D

HapZungLam
08-02-2003, 05:06 AM
pay more attention to the edges, corners. don't think about it is the model that made with pastic, think about the real thing that made with heavey iron.

Corners won't be that sharp. They are beval all around.

The joins and stuff should be more hidden. And again, don't fully base on the model. Think about it when it is at "Charr Return".

Darakusan
08-03-2003, 03:12 PM
Unicron - I'm working out on another hand.. still extremely unsastified with my new version.... does any1 out there have a good reference for gundam style robotic hands?

HapZungLam - actually i did bevel the edges. Only some which i have not, as i will still be working on those areas. Maybe too little?? As for the joins, i see no problem at all for it to be exposed , rather attractive to me.

Anyway thanks!

Being a poor modeler, the leg segment is giving me nightmares..
No pics to update this wrong.. i manage to finish the tigh.. not the calve...1/2 way..

Keep tune.. i will try my best

unicron

Hey Darakusan,

I just did a google search for Gundam, and then search within results: perfect grade. There are a LOT of sites with pics of the perfect grade gundam model kits, and several have some pretty nice shots of the hands that you might be able to use for assistance even though they are not the Sazabi model.

Hope that helps:D

BOO! :P

also, it would be a good idea to purchase the Sazabi model. There is a Master Grade version that would prove very usefull for you. Being able to hold every piece of the model in your hands will give you a great advantage with the accuracy of your model. Also, in the MG manual there are plenty of detailed drawings of many parts of the gundam (of the anime version). and of course, there is a whole manual full of diagrams and drawings of the model version to help you out. i think you will find that stuff most usefull in proportions as well as joints.

you should be able to find the MG Sazabi on ebay or somthing. or perhaps a local hobby shop. i've bought my gundam models from this online webstore in the past.

NP Darakusan, you're doing such a good job already, i just want to see the Sazabi look perfect (or close to it, hehe).

Yea Unicorn, they ARE awesome. omg, soo much detail. the first model i ever bought/built was the Perfect Grade Wing Zero Custom. it took me like a month to build it, but it was kinda fun! and setting up the model in a kewl pose after i was finished was reward enough. it's like making a CG version of it, for me, i find making the phat renders with cool poses to be the reward of playing the most boring game of connect the dots. haha

Darakusan
08-08-2003, 09:36 AM
Ok here's some little updates:

- A whole new hand. nevermind the rigid look as i'm leaving it as it is now till i rig it.

- The Leg is almost done, left the feet and some mechanical joints.

The calve area gave me some hard time due to my very limited skills.

- Some views and a lousy wireframe -

C&C pls.

I've done the feet now.

Items left to be done : Back - pack, Shield & Weapons

great job dude! I really like the model. Only thing is about the hands. I have NO idea how the sazabi model looks like (or any gundam model) but the palm looks wrong (more like, not stylish than wrong, since I dont know what is right.)

Aha, seen the picture again. Seems like your palm is a little flat and perhaps to thick in respect to the fingers. Also, you need that smooth bump of the palm that forms in the palm because of the thumb, that would make it look like a hand more.

Darakusan
08-11-2003, 01:36 AM
Quinn - There's lots of images out there in the net. Try google :)

Diazgl - Yup the hand looks odd now. infact it was already a remodeled hand... sad to say.. but i will see if the hand is ok after i rigged it. currently i' leaving it all at a straight line.. so as for easy rigging at later stages. Will look into it at that stage. Thanks

unicron
08-13-2003, 03:55 AM
Looking good...

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, my internet was down for several days... anyway, I think that the back of the hand should be flat instead of having that slight indentation that you've got. Other than that, the feet seem too big... I know that gundams have big feet in comparison to the body, but it just seems a bit too big.

Keep up the good work: it rocks man!!!:buttrock:

Darakusan
08-13-2003, 01:40 PM
Unicron - haha guess i overdid the feet ^^ i actually resized it to make it bigger.. so u find it too big ah? i will try playing around with it again. As for the hand.. the indention was there according to the ref pics i recieved from angel.

btw i'm nearly done with the backpack. will post an update real soon

I love seeing how much you have advanced with this model. Those new missles turned out very well. I assume you will make the rifle and the shield too. I see something wrong though. The flaps below the shoulder pads have three cylinders under them. It is correct that there are three cylinders below there but they shouldn't be arranged in such a pyramid fashion but rather they should adapt to the curvature of the flap. Take a look at this image to see what i mean. Model (http://sugoiweb.com/models/sazabi-front1.jpg) Also I think the squares on the front of his shoulder should be extruded some. Keep it up man!

The 'bump' on the backside of the hands isn't accurate. infact it shouldn't be there at all. ;)

those referance pics i sent you weren't all from the sazabi model. if you didn't see the hands attached to the sazabi, then they aren't his hands. i sent you the other pictures so you would have a better idea of the shape/mechanics of gundam hands in general. and then use that along with pics of the real sazabi hands to make them accurate.

here is a pic of some 'detailed' add-on hands for the Sazabi model. http://www.hlj.com/cgi-perl/hljpage.cgi?BCL2100

also, you might want to make this add-on rifle for it as well? http://www.hlj.com/cgi-perl/hljpage.cgi?BCL2143

the shield is also in need of corrections. i'm looking for some good pics of it now, i'll post them here when i find some.

i dont know how realistic you want ur sazabi but if u want it to be as real looking as possible tone down the reflection to a just about nill value, and add some weathering to that texture, some decals would help it too, military units are always painted with a drab color (olive drab is that olive green color that doesn't reflect) because if a unit is reflecting light it can be easily seen that's why all military units are painted with a drab color scheme.

yea i can see the new pics too. good start on the poses :D

YESS!! that Nightingale is awesome! the sazabi looks like a good match next to the hi-nu (though u can see a big difference in quality of the models). but as far as the gundam universe goes, you would need the Nightingale to compete with the Hi-Nu. I hope u do a fantastic job on it. it's really an awesome design.

do you think you will work on your hi-nu to bring it up to par with what your current skills can do? it's a really terrific design that is worthy of being a never complete project ;)

and as gunslingerblack said, it's a good idea to lower the relection. it just doesn't suit the gundams. i think the only parts that might actually reflect much are the eyes and the gold metal parts.

for those who don't know what the Nightingale looks like, look here.

Oh yeah haha, i tot i was a bit over engross with making the sazabi shiny :D.

Haha, yeah, after comparing my Hi-nu.. i think it really needs more work hehe. But i still not yet come out with a perfect hand... a one that's good for posing and worthy for a zoom in close shot :|..

Anyway have to work on the Nightingale... kind of tough hehe

Wowwww you did a real nice job on your sazabi, i'm also going to make this robot, it's so cool! I hope it turns out fine, because i find it a pretty difficult robot.
