its the second time im writing this cuz on the first time it somehow went back to the page ive been at and all got erased T_T....

well as the title says this is my entry for the cow (creature of the week) weekly challenge at conceptart.org .

the topic-an alien with exposed brain which glows in the dark.
first i wanna say that altough im learning alot all the time from every pic that im working on ,i think the best source of learning is from other ppls opinions and i also wanna say that if it wasnt for the "kind" community of the cow thread i wouldnt be here cuz they were so kind that they didnt post any comment on any of my wips although i crited some of the ppls work there and gave my opinion on some >.<

...any ways i want you the ppl on this thread to give me all you got and crit me on everything from the workflow, composition lightning ,anatomy (although i didnt use any refrence for this one T_T) to the fin details etc....ALL of the bad things you see (and you CAN mention the good ones if there are any >_>)and if you can add any offers on how to improve it i will be really thankfull (>o^_^o<).
befor you start you just need to know that the background isnt finished on purpose cuz i wanted the alien to stick out abit )i hope i managed to do so)

well enough with the talks and heres the poc with the workflow:
creatures info-
"these creatures live in the rocky area of a distant planet .they live in caves and their glowy brain helps them lighten even the darkest places undergroud.they have no hands and only 1 fingure on their leg's feet and to it attached a rock solid fingure nail on which they walk .as they have no hands they need to lean forward and catch their prey with their 3 mouths and because of that relativly difficult manouver they have to have alot of muscles and their body is very solid."

wip 1-initial design:
i did a mistake here and didnt start with greys for values and just started directly from the colour.

wip 2-
i did a mistake here aswell and didnt align the drawing to any vanishing point so it is looking abit weird.
refining my idea and giving hints for the direction i wanna go twards.

wip 3-working on better lightning and rendering of the whole pic.

final (not so final on my opinion but i didnt wanna keep doing it without some opinions and even some bad ones would satisfy me):

well ....just throw me what you got
sorry for the confusion with cghub i actually ment conceptart.org :D

well its been 4 days and 49 views so far and according to now not a single comment was posted :deal: .

i even got 2 crit comments back in concept art (which i think i underestimated their community and overestimated this one) and i would like to thank "tomgarden" and "supervlieg" for giving me each some helpful crits on this one .
at this point i think i dont have any expectations with leaving it here for you to crit but i will even settle with some simple crits like:" i like it " or " not " cuz to ask more seems too much for you atm  .

thx in advance :)

From my experience you'll get more replies if you ask more specific questions.

"How do I make it look like the brain is glowing?"

Post two different layouts and ask which has the better composition.

Basically you'll have to assume nobody will reply and that you can work through the problems yourself. Sometimes you'll get lucky and somebody will offer some advice but do your picture for yourself by yourself.

Anyway, I think this could become an interesting picture. I'd consider putting the creature deep in an underground cave so you can see just how much light it produces. I'd also think a lot about the texture of its skin. If you can make it look like rock it suggests that the creature uses camouflage to catch its prey. Lastly, give some attention to its teeth. Sharp teeth are scary but are they practical for a creature that lives in caves and tunnels in the mountains? Maybe they should be dull from chomping on rocks?

thx for your replies ^_^

clix101 - thx alot i rly glad you liked it ^_^

Ilikesoup-first of all thx for your reply ^_^ now about what you said to be more specific...ive managed to set my goals straight with this one and was looking for crits on "workflow, composition lightning ,anatomy (although i didnt use any refrence for this one T_T) to the fin details etc....ALL of the bad things you see (and you CAN mention the good ones if there are any >_>)and if you can add any offers on how to improve it i will be really thankfull (>o^_^o<)."
as i mentioned in my first post.

which is simply asking for ppl to take a look at the pic and say:
*if my workflow is good on this one and or how can i improve it (like adding more overlay layers or something like that)
*if my composition is good or how can i improve it(like emphasizing the vanishing point better or idk
*if my lightning is good or suggestions to sorts of lightning or atmosphere that i didnt think of or something that would look nice on your opinion.
*if the anatomy is believeble or if its well seen or mistakes i made .
or basickly other bad things or mistakes i did and missed and you noticed like maybe it's pose is not right or the mountains as much as they are not important they done look like mountains or stuff like that...

and well as much as self crit is important its equally important if not more important to get some fresh eyes to look on your pic.

now concerning your response:
you see i didnt think about hes teeths being dull and thats the kind of thing i was talking about .now about the camouflage if it lives in a cave with it's brain glowing then i guess cuz of the glow the creature isnt that invisible .hmm but ill play with that and see what ill get and i might try sticking it into a differrent inviro to see how it looks ^_^

and i got another crit saying that my pic is too redish and cuz of that the creature isnt being clear enough so ill post an update on that one too :D

thx alot and w8ing for more crits ^_^

Just some quick things I noticed. Try to incorporate your creature into the environment more (have it steping on or over rocks for example). The foreground needs some more detail to match the creature's. Try looking at a cave for examples of what some look like, they usually don't have flat bottoms. I might also introduce a little color variation to add nuance to the surface of objects. Finally, placing the third leg directly behind the body is a little akward.

Hope that helps!:)
