I drew this picture a couple of years ago when I was a student at the Art Institute in Chicago, and I was thinking about adding it to my portfolio. Any comments, suggestions, or questions are welcome.

I've never said this about a drawing before but it looks as if it should have been a photograph to me. :)

IMO:

I like the subject matter and pose

the proportions and volumes are off...mostly the volumes...

it appears that you are spending too much time on the surface details rather than the volume and structure of the subject first

- facial features are sliding around on the face and do not appear to be locked down to a skull
- the fingers are too clyindrical
- the darks feel too dark and the lights feel too white
- the hair is really lackluster...there are more effective techniques to render messy, tangled hair
- the cloth seems too soft and the wrinkles and folds do not hold any taut lines...straights vs. curves with cloth
- I would have used a light mid-tone in the background instead of just white

Thank you very much for the critique, and for your honesty. Some of the details are a little funky because I was working from a bad, faded, reference photo. I, personally, hate the way I drew the fingernails, more than anything. :annoyed:
