Hi all!

http://www.netconplus.com/forums/uploads/post-7-1058279822.jpg

I'm very sorry about linking the file to an image on another forum, but my site is under renovation right now, so I must attach it for fear that you might get a 404 error....<gulp>

Anyway, I would like you guys to critisize it as much as you like. Does the lighting suck? Do the textures make you want hit the off button on you moniter? Does the depth of field look nasty? Comment on everything please! I'm not here to feel good, I'm here to learn.

Thank you!

Cheers!

I got two things, 1 - tone down the DOF a little bit, not much tho. 2 - add some back light to highlight along the edges.

YOU'VE GOT 4 posts!!!! (red from the effigy post ;-))

Maybe take another camera view, so we can see more of you're scene, also take another background, I never seen such play board where you have to turn you're pions into the sky. ;-)

Mostly are those stone chess pieces more massive, to prevent from breaking when you touch them. Make them more massif by creating is more wider. Also some not polished spots may appear.

So here where my comments....

Good luck

Pk, I might fool around with the environment more. Thanks for the comments. So you think the pieces should be larger? I might do that, but more than likely not. You see, this was really more of a chess still for an animation I am making. Its going to be Pixar-"ish" and I jsut finished rigging the characters. :) Thank you for your opinion though; I really appreciate that.

The reason for the checkerboard as the backgroudn was mainly because I was trying to picture what kind of house chesspieces would have if they were actually alive.....So I decided that a chessboard textured house would be cool.....If you guys have better ideas, I would LOVE to here them.

Again, thank you for the post.

I'm also confused. I'm don't nomally post WIPs so I work until I think the image is complete, and then I post it asking for comments......I get comments saying I should improve things in such a way, does that now make it a WIP? So should I post posts like this in the WIP part of CGTalk? Just trying to be a good citizen of CGTalk. ;-)

I'm not sure what HDRI is, but I think its using an image for lighting. I did not use that. Mirrroring material? Not sure what that is, unless you mean like reflective shaders with raytracing on.

However, I rendered this with the Maya 4 default renderer (so I don't have Mentel Ray <boo hoo>). I have very few lights in this seen, I think 2 or 3. The reflections are just raytracing. :)

I'd love to see the rest of the chess board house.

You know, I never modelled it because the project didn't require a lot of it to be seen. All this is is a cube with a domed roof.....
