Hi all,

I'm here to present the first of a series of animation experiments realized with the collaboration of Marco Giordano alias Giordi who animated my T-rex

It was all born as a walk test but I was happy to make an entire scene :-)

It's a full 3D without compositing made in Maya and Renderman.

Hope you'll like it.

Here's the link to wath in HD on VIMEO

Good texturing and lighting but the animation is very stiff and unrealistic. The neck is basically unanimated. The walk has no weight to it at all and this kills the believability of the t-rex. The walk seems a little too quick for an animal that weighs a couple tons. I would space out the steps more and maybe put some kind of pause in the walk, maybe for the dino to look around or something. Do something with the head and neck because they are simply too stiff at the moment. Jurassic park is a good reference for you to look at. The pelvis looks like it's not rotating at all during the walk and this is very important in selling the walk. There is also serious lack of secondary motion in the animation. Everything seems to move at the same time without any offset. Maybe do something with the arms.

I would say you should start the walk cycle again with some good references and you will get a better result.

Bravo...really good job for a first animation test. Yes, the animation is a bit stiff but overall, it feels good . Yes, this piece has great potentials...keep working on it. Have a look at some T-rex movie references like Jurassic park. Lets add some dynamics to the animation, more life.
