I don't know if I read this about Maya or if it was a Max thing, but is there a way to have Maya randomly assign colors to faces that you map - so you know which faces you've mapped as you go?

thanks,
mo

in other words, is there any way to create a visual que that will let me know what faces i've mapped already?

i think thats max, where you randomly assign colors.
a different way to is to map a tester image to it to see whats distorted and whats not.

Hey!!
there is an option somewhere to assign a shader to mapped faces. i think it might be in the plannar/cylindrical/etc mapping options. this will assign a shader(checker by default) to the faces as you go.

if you can't find the button( it does exist somewhere) you could map a group of faces, then click on a shader and assign to selected, then layout the uv's. simple

hope that helped.

cheers!!

hey!!:wavey:

i just took alok at that tool.
looks very cool. it seems mainly for low-poly models tho?
do you think it would be any good for texturing high poly? (i'm guesing it would coz i uv map my high poly's in low poly anyway, so bit of a stupid question????)
seems like the time i would be saving by mapping the faces would be taken up by the time it would take to arrange all the uv's tho.
gonna give the tool a try tonight.
cheers!!

heyhey
glad its useful for you
i have not really used it much to know how it works best but from playing around with it, it is certainly an interesting workflow.
