Not to change the topic, but what made you choose SCAD as your continuing education? Also, what is your major?

Major: Visual Effects for Film
I chose SCAD becasue they offer the major I was seeking, they have brand new facilities, they are primarily an Art/Film school, the campus is awesome, the professors are well known. They also awarded me with a yearly scholarship for my portfolio.
Why did you choose the art institute of Philadelphia?
Any advice for someone about to enter into the field?

Firstly, congratulations on your acception to SCAD. They are a noteworthy institution and will offer plenty of opportunities with their impressive campus facilities.
Let me add that I don't believe anyone with serious ambitions in the CG field should apply to the Art Institute, for a number of reasons that I will not go into at this time. I was lazy and it was the only place I had applied to, and before I knew it, it was already too late to transfer and maintain credits.
I have been to SCAD, I like their campus; the location is great (but hot). I've heard that some of their well-known art staff recently left the school though. I have yet to hear anything else about it, but it was from a reliable source.

As a resent scad graduate, I would just like to put my two cents in...
SCAD was a great place for me to develop as an artist, and with the help of some particular faculty members, I learned why I want to be part of this field outside the "because it's fun" reason. The facilities are second to none, and I was fortunate enough to met some great, talented people. I had nothing but a positive experience.
Some faculty members have recently (past year or two) moved on to take some positions that would be pretty hard to turn down. I don't think anyone left with bad feelings toward SCAD (to my knowledge). Not to say that all the great professors have left. In fact, my favorites are still there.

yeah after I posted I saw that and kind of answered my own question. I should be going there in the fall as well to get my MA/MFA. Haven't decided if I want to spend the the extra year and the extra cash for the MFA.
Anyway good luck to you! :)

nix21,
I'm looking for housing in Savannah as I may be attending SCAD for my MA, but there is no way I am staying in school-sponsored housing (even though they have a pool). I'm 23, I prefer to live in an apt. that is larger than a cereal box.
Where do you plan on staying while at SCAD? I'd like to get some leads on places to stay in the area.
Thanks,
Joe

actually peachstapler, the dorms are huge. Largest dorms you will ever find. if you get into Turner house, where I was an RA, (which is super easy for a grad student, it is amazingly big. Not as big as an apartment, for sure, but it has its benefits. i lived in dorms all while at SCAD

BNelso - I am going for Visual Effects as well. The only thing that I am worried about is that since it is a new program for this fall that if I go for the MA some of the classes won't be ready so that I could complete it in a year. They shift some of the MFA's end classes to the end of the one-year MA. I am going to have to find out soon.
peachstapler - What MA are you going for? I don't have a lot of leads right now as to where I will be staying. My friend is actually looking in to it. He graduated from Florida as well and will be going for his MFA in Film. When he gets back to me, if there is anything good I will let you know.
Take a look at the school newspaper

From viewing your reel, I think that compositing and broadcast graphics are your strongest areas. Good luck at school!

I glad to hear from a SCAD Grad, It gives me hope...I Just transfered here this semester, I have some classes to make up, but next semester I will be a junior. I havent had any of my major classes yet, But home-experimentation is where its at. That is where you learn the most. I'm looking forward to the real world. KIT.
