Ugh... I think that I've just screwed myself over, but I'm hoping one of you who know more than I do about unwrapping can help me out.

What I've done is unwrapped a huge and pretty damn complex ship, I've spent about a good 4-6 hours unwrapping it, and I had previously broken it up into 4 different matids, two for the outside, 1 inside, and 1 for the cockpit glass.

Now the problem I have is this: I need to make the unwrap section on the inside into two different textures / matids. Is there anyway I can do this without having to unwrap the whole thing again, and without having to manually click each poly that needs to go on the different matid? Its really hard to click on the different pieces which is why it has taken me so long. So trying to change the matid by hand at this point would drive me insane :annoyed:

Is there anyway I can change the matid from the unwrap editor? Or somehow change it easily? Please help me out on this! :)

try to apply an edit mesh on the whole thing, do a select by ID, select the interior faces ID, for exemple, ID2, then unselect (holding ctrl) the faces you don't want to be in the new ID and then, in the editmesh panel give a new ID to your selection set (for exemplen ID5)

so the first part of your interior faces would stay on ID2 and the new selected wil be on ID5

then , you can copy and past your unwrap modifier (but I don't promise you It will perfectly fit because it's not the same selectionset ) and past it on the top of your editmesh (DON'T DESELECT YOUR ID5 FACES WHEN YOU PAST THE UNWRAP)

In fact max material IDs, UW and Unwrap are very flexible, but need some practice

Hope it helps

alright..thats what I was afraid of :S. Just trying to select the different pieces on this object was hard because of the multiple interrior pieces. Is there anyway to hide faces / polys? I would love a feature in max like that...

Yes, you can hide faces and polys. Just hide them. Actually look at your editable poly/editable mesh panel. It's towards the bottom. Select the polys, and hit the "hide" button.
