View Full Version : Need help in a WIP piece
Jierune 05-04-2009, 06:37 AM Hi guys. This is my first post here at CGTalk forums. I came upon your forum from an ImagineFX magazine. I am also a member of CA and IFX forums. My aim is to be a professional illustrator soon and I would very much like you guys' help in achieving that. I've been trying to get serious with my digital painting skills for about a year now. I hope to be working in an art company next year.
But enough introductions. I'm working on my current piece and I think this is almost the limit to what I can do. Please give me any critiques and suggestions on how I can improve this before putting this up in my dA account. Thanks for the help, guys!

Looks awesome. But, if you really want some critique, I'll give it to you. The fiery piece on his face; Is that his eye or just part of the stuff floating around? Also, the energy saber looks like it can be giving off more light against the figure.

I agree with Jokerman that the energy sword should be emitting more light. You can subtly flesh out some of the front of your figure with a dull red glow.
The background can still be your main light source - and you can still keep that great sillhouette effect - but filling out the form with secondary light from the sword and reflected light from the background is what's going to take this picture from great to phenomenal.

Dang, this looks nice! The red eye/fiery thing puts me off a little, I must agree.
Otherwise, just congratulations to a really nice piece of work...

Oh, and also, this is just a personal preference, but I think it looks to clean. I like pictures with more grit and noise. I would play around with some textures - photo textures or just rendomly shaped brushes - and see if you can give it some more personality.
But it looks great so far.
