the aliendesign has been replaced by a newer one because it looked almost excactly like the mib-alien (edgar-alien?)

Very nice work Basti. What compositing software did you use (AE)? Did you animate the creature in Cinema 4D? Keep up the good work. -Romantic

hi and thanks :)
yes i used cinema 4d (xl7) for animation and dust fx
and aftereffects (4.1) for compositing. the cameramovement was done in aftereffects, too because the plate was just a boring tripod-shot.
i will upload some newer tests the next days and post the links in this cool forum (some cool matchmove stuff)

Very interesting work! How did you do the motion blur. Was that an AE posteffect as well or where do you set that in Cinema?

In the render settings under effects, its alo right there in the manual ;)
SCene takes longer but produces okay effects, I would personally try and use an AE post myself as it is much faster and tends to produce better results, and object motion blur tendes to produce junk but can really create interesting effects and such, and is much faster.

Looks very good Basti. I would suggest his landing does not emphasis his weight that much. Maybe make it a bit longer, and do some some more compression on his limbs.
Great shot though.

good points, more squash and a little more overshoot when it comes back up to make it look big and powerful. it came through fast so it will land hard.

yeah cool... i have to think about that.. the movement of the feet/claws (?) doesn't look right, too.. but i just finished the main parts of the new model.. its a complete different design but it might be fun to animate this guy:

please don't expect answers over the next few hours because another 'afterschool'-party is about to begin.. shhhheee..
 :bounce: :buttrock:
btw: i used 9x scene motion blur... with no antialias
how can i achieve a mb -posteffect in aftereffects (4.1 standard)? i tried the ghost-effect but it looked .. well... like a ghost ;)

You can use a plug-in called Realsmart Motion blur which does it as a post process. It will not be as accurate but will obviously speed up rendering in Cinema a lot since you don't need to render it 'in there'.

depends on what your going for. and what software you have to do it.

hi kaiskai
software: photoshop 4 (yeahh i know..)
and i hope to get enough money for bodypaint as soon as possible.
not the greatest software huh? but i just thought somebody has a good idea for a texture.. here are so many talented artists.
to keep it more realistic i would try to make some kind of grey/dark texture.

do you at least have the UV to BMP plugin for XL???
This will help you a fair bit, what version of XL are you using too, do you have SLA?
basti

ohh.. sorry i thought i wrote it before...
i use xl7.3 and the uv unwrap is no problem (hard work of course)
and i used sla 3d noise in the colour slightly, to give a few more details to the skin.. a more interesting look.. but just for previe, though.
what do you think would be more useful for texturing: photoshop (6 or 7) or bodypaint? do you work with bodypaint?
i quite used to do it the 'traditional' way.. first unwrap and then painting in 2d ... but bodypaint could be a alternative.. i don't know..

hey basti your clip looks really interresting :) you are really gonna make a movie?? there are some things that bug me though.
. the monster is really peaceful before he jumps maybe you should study his movement and instincts a little more
. the broken glass (the "debris") isn't very visible
. the camera's movement (up and down) looks kinda stiff
that for now :) looking forward for your next clip!!
