This is going to be my first challenge and I am looking forward to it.

This is what I came up with after a couple hours in real flow. Vimeo's compression mucks up the particles quite a bit but you can download the original video at the bottom of the page. My wave seems to be hitting the island too much and not enough is hitting the lighthouse. My collision distance is too big and the resolution of the simulations was pretty low to keep the simulation quick for testing but I think I got the scale right. I may end up creating multiple smaller splashes across different parts of the island instead of the whole thing as one simulation so I can have a bit more control.

Nice splash and in such a short time.

Mike Z!!! what up? Nice work, realflow makes life easier, just not at render time:) Good luck man, i'll be watching!!!

Wave test number 2.
I increased my resolution and pumped up the particle count to 1 million. I let this simulate overnight. I did forget to drop my collision distance and I also am getting some weird clumping of particles in some places.

Looks good Mike, I like the shapes you're getting with the splashes, looks like you have some stragglers hangin out on the rocks on the right. Great job!!!

Hey Mike,

That looks really good. What is you machine specs? I am simming right now with about half a million particles and it is taking awhile with my quad core.

Look forward to see your progress.

Currently I am having trouble working with Realwave. I have never used it before and I can't get the fractal waves to achieve the look I was able to do with maya's ocean shader. And I don't know how to go about using the ocean shader so foam emits from the peaks of the waves when it is imported from realflow instead of mayas ocean surface. I am also using RWSplash for the first time to get some small splashed around the edge of the island. I think the biggest problem I will run into is rendering and shading the different elements so they belong together in the same scene.

Here is my latest:

dam, vimeo tells me that i have more than 1 hour to wait before watching your video...
1h03 min... due to a high number of upload now.... and they can email me when its ok!!...
hope its only me( i dont have an account, and dont want to..), but its pretty long to wait this time before watching a 20 secondes video... :)

It isnt a wait time to watch the video, it is a wait time for Vimeo to compress the file and host it. It doesn't matter if you have an account or not. Once it is done anyone can watch it without waiting. I just kind of jumped the gun about posting. Next time I'll be sure to wait until it is fully uploaded before posting a link.
