hello!!:wavey: i want to skin a character...and i would like to know if 3dsmax has something similar to maya's or LW smartskin....(some plugin maybe?:shrug: )

if you want to see her...here's a 4000px picture (almost non-textured)

(i think i will have to put arms with a higher angle to rig it...)

thanks everybody!

Hi DDS, nice model. You should put that over on the WIP forum if you haven't already!

As to your question, I'm not familiar with smartskin. What does that actually do? Max does have skinning, but you seem to be after something more.

Smart Skin.... from Hash... enables you to deform your mesh in any way you want according to position/rotation of bones.

In 3ds you got the Morph Angle deformer and a few others that does the same job i would look those up in the manual.

Unfortuanetely they only work properly on hinge joints like arms legs... not on ball joints like the shoulder area that can rotate in 3-axis.....

Please note that a true Smart Skin system in 3ds requires scripting to drive the morph targets properly in all axis through IK chains. However, if you use FK you can get away with parameter wiring, the reactor controller or expressions (look those up in the manual) to drive morph targets.

Apparently. Character Studio 4, with slightly better integration w 3ds, using a different underlying architecture, handles the Reactor Controller driven Morph Targets well tho. Check out this link for further info;

Doubt Discreet will have fixed the Angle deformers for r6, so I would PLEADE on the discreet webboard that someone post a workaround tutorial on proper character deformations w smart skin and maybe also how to do an "Auto Clavicle" setup that works through IK, suitable for newbies. It involves some math that needs explaining if you are a newbie. This issue comes up like constantly would be nice if someone Math Capable Person could help out, i am not that person sad to say.

Hope this getīs you started anyway.
