3DsMax 2009: mental ray: rendering to texture ambient occlusion from a High-poly projection

most of the render works fine, but one element doesn't seem to be effected at all and is just blank white space. there doesn't appear to be any difference between this element and the other ones, so i'm really stumped. and im sure there's occlusion spots that would show up on it..

it's like it's singling this element out for some reason though i can't find anything unique about it

any ideas??

fixed.

the uv's were mirrored.

i didn't think 3dsmax mirrors things by default but I guess it does

also, i assumed mirrored uv's would project mirrored AO, as it projects mirrored normal maps, so maybe its a mental ray thing?
