Hi, I'm building a rig based on the 3D Quakers Pro DVD, for some reason when I move any of the controllers max freezes for 20 - 30 seconds.
I thought I'd made an error in the reaction manager or wire parameters that might be causing the lock ups, but i opened the file in the 2010 trial of Max , and it works perfectly.??
I'm on the verge of re-formatting and re-installing XP, as I can't find an a solution anywhere, and haven't been able to work on my rig for 2 days.
Anyone had similar problems ?

This sounds to me like a controllers doing heavy communication - do you have nested script controllers or nodes referencing script controllers on other objects or vice versa?

To be honest I'm not entirely sure, this is the first full rig I'm attempting to build.
I know it's a pretty complex rig (from my pov anyway), but other rigs I've looked at don't come close to the functions this one has.
There hasn't been much scripting so far other than the standard expression controller stuff for arm twist.
I can move the actual IK chain, arm twist and auto clavicle are unaffected, the freeze only happens when I move the Hand Control or the Arm Swivel, I keyframed some movement before this happened, and when I playback there's no freezing.

I've gone back to my incremental file saves and I've noticed the rig gets slower the more I add to it, and I can't figure out why.http://1.2.3.13/bmi/forums.cgsociety.org/images/smilies/shrug.gif
If someone wouldn't mind taking a look at it and tell me where I'm going wrong it would be a great help. thx

Odd, im using max2009 as well and it works fine (although half the plugins u have wouldnt load.) I tried the right arm controller and it works fine, without any lag or freezing.

Gaaaaaa! http://1.2.3.12/bmi/forums.cgsociety.org/images/smilies/banghead.gif I'll format and re-install, tracking down problems is no fun, I want to finish this rig. Thanx for the feedback.

Instead of going through all the trouble of a format, why not just try completely removing and reinstalling MAX first? or maybe the problem may be caused by one of the plugins that don't load up for me?

First thing I tried was remove and re-install of Max, still had the problem. I only used final toon shader on the rig, never had a problem with final render before.
XP has it's own drive, I install software to other drives and backup the registry for each prog so reformat isn't that much of a pain.
I dunno maybe dot net got munged somewhere down the line, I'm an artist not a technician dammit :D

OK,

Why dont you just de-enable your added plugins first to see if there breaking anything??

Plugins were the first to go before I re-installed Max, didn't help either, hopefully the problem won't return, i'm monitoring my plugin installations as i'm setting max up again to see if I can find the offender,so far all is good :)

is this the advanced Rigging dvd?

I've been working on that one and had a few problems this weekend with the arm rigging. Currently including the auto clavicle. When you say your controls froze, did you mean the hand control sliders that were working previously now slid but have no interaction?

I was thinking it was max but could be the scripting. Don't have any plugins yet besides what came with it. Fixed one problem where the script to negate double rotations in the forearm cased the hand to stop rotating in the x. Just deleted the script and it's been fine since.

Right now I'm trying to link the clavivle's z rotation to a helper(arm mid) constrained to the hand control and the swivel control with a float exp. Problem is clavicle is thrown way out of position (even with an offset)

here's the code:
degToRad(ypos - 21.447)

the 21.447 is the local position of the arm mid but instead the clavicle's z rotation is now way out of wack.
