Interesting article on Ed Catmull and Pixar's history. Anyone, have any word on "Luxo"?

"...For example, he invented texture mapping -- the ability to paint an intricate skin onto specific graphic elements, even as they move around the computer screen."

Sounds like a pretty interesting guy.

Awesome, great read, thnx for the link!

There's also an interview with him here: http://www.usc.edu/isd/publications/networker/97-98/Sep_Oct_97/innerview-catmull.html

also afaik, I think Ed Catmull and Jim Clark came up with the catmull-clark smoothing algorythm that we use for our SubDiv's and PolySmooths today :applause:

wow, good article.....all the more reason i really wanna work there...... :)

I can't believe Pixar stock is up to $60 a share! and disneys is at about $21.........lol, funny how Disney gets the name recognition in everything and pixar only gets half the profits........but Pixar is still worth more (in the overall scheme of things) than Disney.

Keep it going guys!

Somehow, I doubt that that situation will last... PIXAR has a lot
more weight for when they renegotiate their contract, so I expect
that they'll be getting a bigger cut from future Disney films that
they make :)

Which they indubitably deserve, obviously!

Higher stock price doesn't mean a company is worth more than another. You have to consider the number of shares they have available. Disney probably has atleast 10x as many shares for trade in the market(probably more).

that is true, but you also have to remember that disney has been around for nearly a century! Pixar is a baby in the industry......so if you think about it based on length of the life of the company Pixar is worth more.

Considering pixar has accounted for most of disneys income for years now.
