I noticed a few things that people are probably going to kill themselves wondering why Mudbox crashes repeatedly on startup. If you changed a path to a stamp or stencil file without Mudbox knowing, it will crash so either delete your preferences ( /Users/you/Library/Preferences/Mudbox/2009/settings/settings.sav ) or fix the link. Also, if your model is not showing up in the viewport, it's probably because the link to your material is dead too.

Watch out for curves (on the Mac at least). Sometimes after selecting a curve Mudbox goes poof. It also trashed the file I was working on.

Thanks for letting us know about this bug... It has just occurred for me after running a quick disk utility on my MAC.

Sorry to be totally noob but would you be able to walk me through the steps so it wont crash on startup? that would be so cool! ty :)
