Looks super, very much Neil's vision in there.. quite a bit like his robot police video but with aliens instead. Looks like it could be a fun ride.

Is that alien part suit, part CG?

Wow.

It's about time they let Neil make a feature film. I'm more interested in this movie than any of the action blockbusters.

Congrats to Marco Menco and Julianna Kolakis for their breathtaking work on the aliens

man, i didnt pay attention to anything about this project, so when i saw the spaceship, the helicopters flying near it, and the alien my jaw dropped. what a great reveal in the trailer. i love how it doesnt feel like a polished movie, but like a documentary. love it.

very promising.

I always thought disaster/virus/extra-terrestrial-type movies always have much more credibility if it's done mock-umentary style. Feels real, looks real, dialogue sound real. Even Cloverfield felt more real because we knew the camera was in the hands of the people there.

Anyone remember this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320482/

Cant wait.

So it's a big screen expansion of his "Alive in Jo'Burg"? Cool.

For those that haven't seen the short: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNReejO7Zu8

I'm not fully buying it so I guess the alien is CG. It's pretty gruesome though and its groals remind me of the people of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones.

Gawd, those Joburg accents :argh:

Looks great though, I'm glad Neil finally got a chance to make something for the big screen.

I loved Neil's short films, but I'm not sold on this trailer. The interrogation scene was a bit silly, with the Predator/insect alien. The ship looked very CG. The best shot was the ots from the helicopter, even if the ship seemed a bit fakey.

It seems at odds with itself that the aliens and ship are so "standard", but the Joberg setting is hyper-realistic. The alien culture just doesn't seem very "alien" to me.

In any event, still looks interesting and I hope it works in the end.

It's good work of many people, it's my pleasure to work with them.

Only thing I can say the next trailer would be much awesome than this one,
this one is just "teaser", damn I wish they don't put mosiac on the face.
But that part serves a purpose I guess.

It'll be a good movie, some hints of other great works' influence, have a lot potential,
I just hope they keep it one piece, and let imagination do the job for the rest part.
(I admit I don't like seeing so many "trilogy" poping up, especially go to the second one that all aware there will be a third.)

Still a few months before it hit theaters, I do hope they have the budget to create enough hype.

My impression's of it being at odds with itself are same.. though I loved the idea and the ship itself or whatever it was and that it felt close to human but the alien seemed removed from it - didn't feel quite like it was from the same world...

I'll concede the insect-aliens seem aesthetically at odds with the spaceship design, but I'm still enthusiastic.

i think we all feel that way. atleast thats what i initially felt as soon as i saw teh words saying they are not human. ( though my initial thoughts were that the soldiers that were shown earlier in the trailer would be something along the lines of the soldiers in HL2, but then they revealed the spaceship, so it started to feel sort of independance day and whatnot ( heh i was also reminded of the interrigation with neo in matrix 1, haha ).

I didn't mean to imply that the alien looked like bad cg or unreal (image-wise, it looks very good), but that in the context of this "serious" movie, he/it looked pretty bland. The idea of sitting there interrogating this thing in that manner also seems a bit tv-movie-of-the-week-ish. Just another humanoid-shaped insect alien in a flying saucer. But I have a little faith this movie will go well beyond that.

Looks kinda lame and straight to tape quality. Basically his other short film spread over 90 minutes?

Sorry maybe just not my taste.

This film will be very cool. While the ship and the alien are cool, it's a shame none of our shots are in this teaser....wait for next trailer. :)

Only thing I would have done differently is make the aliens look human. Would have driven the message more clearly too.

Should be cool though, I always liked Neil's shorts.

Maybe it's not their ship. That occurred to me ... just after I posted my comment. If that's the case, however, I'm worried I'll start making comparisons to "Alien Nation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_Nation_%28film%29)".

Whoa, The "can like too" accent was really special. haha. Gotta love the english accent though.
The aliens looked really cool. Though can't see much:P. I agree though that the space ship thing and alien look very seperate from each other. But maybe thats not the alien space ship? Looks more man made to me. dum dum dum!

Would have been awesome to be apart of this. Our local productions could learn a thing or too. Meh. If only money wasn't wasted on rugby movies or other junk...

Congrats Neill!

The interview at the end with the alien is just superb, and the ship is top class.

Yeah I agree the interrogation scene seems a bit weird. Give that creature some space. It might be carrying a flu or something. :scream:

And it does sound like Alien Nation from the titles.

Still its nice to see a setting other than the US(or British Columbia pretending to be the US).

would've prefered Afrikans with subtitles:D But this does look interesting.Should be a great promotion for the forthcoming Rugby world cup.lol.
Always great to watch movies with zero hollywood accents in.

The alien looks much better in the non blurred version. Seeing the extra detail in the face just make it look like it's higher quality. I say it wasn't worth the blur.

At any rate, I can't wait to see more of this!

SciFibrow

D'oh! I have to wait until I get home to see what it's face looks like! We can't view vids at work.....

I love the viral marketing too, I was coming up with all these theories watching it: is the face blurred to keep it's identity a secret from the other aliens? Is it one of those "first contact" situations where people might be able to record it and analyse it later only to find that the alien was saying something deeply disturbing?

I guess all of you already know from the subtitles... unless the person subtitling it was.... an agent of the establishment!!!

EDIT: Having just seen the unpixelated version I'm just amazed at how realistic the situation and thus the alien comes across. Fortunate for the artform that they chose such a pertinant topic for a film. I think this will be a real treat.
