View Full Version : Poly Projections
Elliotjnewman 07-15-2003, 12:50 PM How do I reselect my projections after I have deleted my scene history? Usually I would go to the channel box and select them through the history... but as there is no scene history I cant...
cheers,
Ell.

as you mentioned.. : you canīt.. its gone.
you should not delete it (delete history), if you still need to tweak it.

or do another projection after you deleted your history :)

That is rather shit then really!

that is as much shit, as complaining about the fact, that after selling your car you cant drive it anymore.
that is the history and if you delete it, there is no reason to complain that you cant use it anymore.
sorry..

deleting history is another way for telling Maya to "bake" deformations into it.
the purpose of deleting history is to make maya calculate faster....it can do that when you bake your deformations/projections.

Yeah I can understand why it would delete it. Its just annoying when you have to delete a scenes history for file size and optimizing reasons, it would be better if the projections could be seen in the outliner so when (and often is the case during a project) you can go and select those projections again for for editing.

deleting a whole scenes history is usually not a good idea at all..
i would do that very selectively.. so just for objects you are 100% positive they can stand it..
concerning the projections:
with the polygon tools, you just create the UVs based on a projection node.
you can do that and then delete the history of the object.
now you can create your shader in hypershade and THERE use projection nodes to place the textures on your object (quite likely you will have to make them "local" to be able to deform then).
when you do it that way, you can delete the objects history and still be able to change the texture projection..
but generally: that is not really a way i would go for several reasons.

like i said before .. delete history and THEN do the projections. this way you will have only projection nodes on the geometry.

yeah. Thats a better way of doing it, so that there is no history before the projections are created. I would do what you are saying alexx but the scenes projections and shaders have already been created, also some of the shaders are being used on more than one object so all the nodes associated to it werent created with projections, so mainly our scenes projections are object created not shader created. Its not a huge problem to us as we can always quickly re-do a projection. Thanks for all the input.
