Hey Matthias! That's incredible!
You did this all by yourself!? Amazing!
I'm wondering why it isn't plugged yet.
Could you give us a better quality divx? That would be great!
I'm looking forward to your next work!

Great Short! I know there's a lot of work in it. Gratulation on finishing the piece.
But since this is a Critiques forum I wanna mention a few things, that could be improved. First, the sea gull infront of the cliff stays in the same position on the image, while the camera is shaking hard, because of the passing airplane. I guess it's footage composed onto the scene and you just forgot to adjust it to the shaking camera zou had rendered.
There are some animations, that could be improved in matters of flight characteristics. But I guess you know what I mean since you have a lot of experience about that.
And last but not least the cheap composed explosions at the end. I propose to set some lights in the scene and animate them to have some interaction with the light and the buildings. Also some more modeled debris flying towards the camera could help on improving the scene.
Apart from these few nitpick critiques, it's a great short and a whole lot of work for one person. You truly have my admiration.
Looking forward to your next piece and what it'll be about.

I like the old feeling it has - though more pre-WW2. 1920's style.
The planes don't really fit in too well though. Being the main characters in the animation, I think they are the weakest part as well. Their shapes are not accurate (rather simplified representations of the real thing), their textures aren't quite as nice as the scenery (too "painted" looking - the Spitfire mostly), and their flight animation is far from realistic, like Hugh P. Rich already pointed out.
However, bad as this may sound, the overall animation is action-packed, stylish and gripping. The special effects were quite good! And I think those are the key items you were going for.
If you were going for a "realistic" dogfight animation, I'm afraid it needs a lot of tweaking... But if the goal was to create an action-packed presentation, then you've managed very well!
Sorry if I appear to be overcritical. I always am when it comes to airplanes. But then again, if you didn't want crits you wouldn't post here! ;)

Very nice animation! I liked the camera work a lot!
Although some textures can be improved!
I also thought that the pilot lacked facial expression it would add so much more the the feel if he would look back or something during the time the camera is focused on him!
But good work!
P.S what software? max maya or xsi?

Looks great.. But sometimes the planes really pop-up of the background.. but everything else looks good!
Somehow the lighthouse reminds me of 'The Ring'

WOW!
This is pretty solid. Some of the comments I would write have already been mentioned (sea gull).
I'm impressed with how much this looks like it is stop motion or done with mineatures. Very nice stuff.

currently i'm loading your avi file and i was wondering what the meaning of "snafu" is - what does this abbreviation stand for???
this question comes from the fact that we have an internet provider of this name here in Berlin - wondering what internet providing and something from ww2 may have in common...
btw: your images rock
soon i hope to see your video, hopefully it will run 'cause i got rude problems with my divx :annoyed:
stay tuned and thanks in advance for answering my stupid question

Snafu means disorder/chaos.

Hi all!
Uups! I´m really forgot to track the sea gull.
I´m going to fix this as fast as possible. Oh, I set some lights in the scene and animate them, but I think it´s too low.
I used Maya for this this project.
My goal was to create an action-packed presentation, not a "realistic" flight animation. :-)
Thank´s for your feedback!

Hello Matthias!
What a ****ing great work you`ve done!
A real pendant to the Pearl Harbor Movie from Hollywood.
Everything looks so real. The stormy clouds, the firing machine guns, the hard cuts with the fighting planes, it looks really like the scenes of old WW2 Movies.
Did you do this project really on your own?
I mean the whole bunch from the concept till the post?
You must have a lot of knowledge, not only about 3d, also about the whole moviemaking process.
Are you a professional artist? You must have a long time of experience.
I think its a great idea, to present cg pictures in that oldfashioned look. That makes them much more real, then the usual overcolored look from cg.
How did you create the explosion at the end and the firing guns? Is this all done in 3d?
Have you also done other projects? I´`m interested to see more of your work.
Thanks for that real great pictures
Marco

Wow! :0)
Yes, i did all by my own. But i have got some great friends, which gave me a lot of feedback and help.
I´m a Student at the GERMAN FILM SCHOOL near Berlin / Germany.
The Explosions are real footage on planes in Maya and the Gunfire is a Combustion Particle, which i rendered with alpha channel and put it also on to a plane.
Just look at my Website on www.cgimages.de
Thank´s a lot.
In a view days i´ll put the fixed (tracked Sea Gull and highlight Explosions) Short on the Server.
But i`ll post it!

Hi Matthias!
After looking again several times your snafu, i still can get enough from these fine pictures. More and more i discover all those details you`ve build in your scences. The destroyer at the see looks really real, or the buildings the planes are passing by.
Also the texturing at the british plane looks like a displacement map.
Very fine!
