View Full Version : Copying Masks in Photoshop CS4
chapps 04-29-2009, 09:09 AM Ive done a search of the fums with no success. How do i copy the mask from one layer over to another. Simple as it should be I just cant seem to figure it out. Its been a long day and i just need an answer. Thanks for all your help as I know its a rather newbie question.

You can ctrl-click a mask to create a selection from it and then simply use the "add layer mask" button.

Select the mask, hold the ALT key and drag it onto the layer you want to copy it to.
Ha, that's even better, as it allows you to replace existing masks.

of course this nifty trick applies to vector masks and layer effects as well.. and can also be placed on a group for the masks.
How do i copy the mask from one layer over to another. Simple as it should be I just cant seem to figure it out.
If the masks have to stay identical and the layers are in sequence, then it's better to move them into a group and add the mask to the group instead.
