Well, this is the first time I've posted my work on here...ready for the crits...
First, the animation (no story, just a simple jump thingie to test the motion).

Looks kewl! It kinda reminds me of the simpsons. Don't know why but it somehow seems like a similiar style :P
Only crit I can think of is the big eye. The red around the pupil looks a bit weird. Oh, and this is more of an idea then a crit, but perhaps it would look kewler if you used a bump map with the ear textures. That might give it some more depth.

I wanted to do a kinda wacky 3D character, and based it on a sketch I did as a joke originally. I think you're right in the Simpsons comparison....as there is that kind of element to it (especially in the mouth area).
I agree about the eye. I can't make up my mind about it, whether to keep some kind of bloodshot rim, or get rid of it completely.... :)
As for the ears, there IS a bumpmap on there, to bring out the veins, but I lowered it from the original settings, as it seemed TOO pronounced at certain angles....maybe I should BAM! Kick it up a notch! for this lighting scheme. Right now it looks kind of "out of place" with a character that is more or less smooth, though. I may try doing some kind of subtle fur thing, so that there isn't such a disparity in the design...
I guess I should have put this in the WIP section :)

I think it looks a bit like the Freak from Menithings. The eyes and teeth.
I dont like the yellowish color.

I agree on the yellowish colour (the area of the mouth). It's what reminds toxichimp of the simpsons (i think). Also, the bump is a bit wrong. A nice idea would be to make some fur on to him.

Although I guess the eyes are the same idea, I drew this character sketch well before the Freak. It wasn't until I saw the latest Freak trailer that I realized the similarities :(
Oh well, it's different enough anyways. I think it's really the eyes that give it a similar look.
Heh, funny thing that.
I was just doing some tests with fur.
Once I added this test fur, I realized even more how the yellowy 5 o'clock shadow really stood out. Although Saslite is so limited compared to the full package, I think I can make a "real fur" 5 o'clock shadow that will look better.
BTW, As I continue with this, I'm realizing more and more that I REALLY REALLY REALLY should have posted in the WIP section, though the animation itself was a completed project.

The fur looks pretty good, although perhaps it would look better with a very low density (5-10 %) and some more drooping. That would give it a more dirty look wich fits the character better I think.
As for the color, I dunno... perhaps it's a bit too bright or something?
Oh and about the eye. If you would choose to delete it and doesn't look quiet right, perhaps you can make the eye bigger. Alot, bigger then the left eye even. Might look kewl :)

Well, I didn't like the way the allover fur was working, and I think that was because I originally was going for a kinda cartoon character.
I think I'm gonna go for something like this instead. Just some essential fuzz on particular parts...though the colour may change.
One question, is it the yellow of the 5 o'clock shadow that's bugging everyone, or is it the creamy yellow of the skin overall? Just curious...
BTW, here's the original sketch that I did a couple of years ago.

hehhe, i guess it was a step to be later taken....:) I still insist on the mouth area, with the yellowish colour, it gives it a whole new feel than the one it *should*. Oh, and fur, i meant like the one you see on horses, or even donkeys (no actual dynamics on the fur, just enough to make it visible), maybe you can give that with texture? Fur could also give it a cartoon character, depending how you apply it.
