View Full Version : WIP: Leonardo Class Salvage/Cargo Craft
Xpressions 07-15-2003, 09:31 AM Hi guys! :D
Being off the boards for a while and just starting off with yet another model, I thought I'd share it with you guys to get some feedback on the design & stuff.
A bit of background....
This ship, a Leonardo Class Salvage/Cargo craft, is the ship of a main character for an animated Cg short I'm planning. It's supposed to be heavily tinkered with and modified by it's owner. The overall length of the ship would be some 50-70 meters/150 to 210 ft.
The first image shows the cleaned up sketch for the design, the other two are renders of the geometry.

do you really wanna know what i think? ;)
well.. you're gonna hear it anyways. i'd say the overall shape is very boring. also this style spaceship has been done a million times before. it's basically an elongated cube with a ton of geometric detail tossed in for effect.
consider changing the shape and adding practical detail instead of just plain old detail. like cranes and hatches and docking rings and whatever you can think of to make it more interesting.
if you didnt wanna hear this, i'm sorry. but you wanted to know what i thought! ;) good luck with it.

No offense taking when reading constructive criticism. That's what I looked for.
On your points:
Ad1: the shape is boring yes. But I wanted it to be very "unstylish" and it should not look like a warship (like the Andromeda et al) because it isn't.
Ad2: the geometry on that thing is just the starting point...It Will develop into cranes, clamps, hatches and the like. Refer to the sketch for some ideas listed there.
I'm currently busy with a business plan for college (sux :( ) and hopefully will have some time doing further modelling on that ugly SOB.
Thanks for looking at it anyways :D
Regards, Dave
PS: George, I reckon you're an XSIer as well?
well i'm glad you have plans to develop it. and yeah college planning sucks.. good luck with it.
