this is great! i like the textures and your design, especially the face. Cool that it was done with blender - i havent seen too much stuff done with the program, but this is great!

LOL yeah like one of those creatures on galaxy quest. but one thing that keeps bothering me is the "hexagonal" eye. it's just catching my eye and wont let go. besides that i love it.

hey!!:wavey:
that looks great. how did you get that glow effect that is on the post pic.??
dunno how you can manage to stay with blender. i tried it for a couple of dasys and had to give up it was so frustrating.

well, good work.
cheers!!

"how did you get that glow effect that is on the post pic.??"

In Photoshop: blur/fade blur with various blending settings (color only, color dodge, screen etc.).

cool, cute, appealing... but i don't like the pointy ears..... just doesn't click with a cute char.... have them beveled a little and round up the pointy edge.

usually, only evil or villain chars have pointy sharp attributes like thorns, goatie, hats like a witch's, teeth,... and etc.... just part of the char design process.... unless u have a great reason for ur pointy ears..

Thanks.
Blender is a great 3d application. I want to show what can be created with Blender. You can see my works on my homepage: endi.ini.hu

Very nice job! I started with Blender and then moved to Lightwave, I found the interface to be very similar. If only blender had as many useful tools as Lightwave and the ability to render transparency it would be a real contender again.

Wow. Never thought of BLender being close to LightWaves interface though from some old screens of LW I could see how it would look like 5 or below. I started with LightWave 7 so ya. Blender is Confusing to me lol. Cool little program though.

I really like this creature ! Very original.
It made me immediatly think of the 'wentelteefje' from M.C. Escher.

only one biological aspect : how is it going to keep it's balance when it's walking / running ? His tail is 'cut' so i think that's going to be a little hard....

Are you going to animate it by the way ?

endii, your Blender renders inspire me. Great renders.

I like your Maya Renders. They have that Max look about them. Maybe it's just the post.

Hey run that bad boy through a Tuhopuu
Blinn conversion render or toon Material. I would love to see how your little guy looks after a Tuhopuu render session.

Also give him a good mellow gold colored key Spot light and a a few light blue fill lamps set down real low and soft shadows set high. That should add more spice to your render even without the post. And you should be able to match that Maya render or surpass it with your Blender render.

Check out my Scene Lab Guide render examples-
http://www.solarflarestudios.com/forum/download.php?id=185

My renders are pretty basic and don't show as much radiance as yours but the Blender GI scene render near the bottom of the page is a good model I use as a base for many render setups.

Many inexperienced 3d artist think that good renders go along with the 3d software package. endi's renders are proof that the approach to using a 3d software is where the power lies in any 3d app. I can do professional high quailty 3d renders with any app I use. A good experence in 3d software methodology leads to greats renders. Blenders real power after you get to know is it's rendering speed. In rest is just icing on the cake. And it's getting creamier and sweeter of all the time!

That's what I'm talkin' bout endi yeah!

Blend on!

I think that Chumpy could be a little more bumpy. Why not
displace the critter? Here's a new tool for Blender:

Displacement for Blender-

http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13639

I used gimp for the TGA displacement map. It worked perfectly on any UV mapped object in Blender.

Thanks, I will try that displacement thing.

Keep up the good work.

Wow, this morning a co-worker told me that blender is a program with all features we are used to have in Maya, Max, Lw and now I see the proof
Itīs quite stunning what this free software provides
( polys, nurbs, metaballs, animation tools, radiosity ..)

Hey endi2 great to finally see another Blender user post on here. Looking great there and I'm looking forward to the animation.

first: endi2 love the work, your maken me and all blender users
very proud! it's not intirly the program it's the artist!

but

second: puuuf your co-worker is a lier I happen to know blender well and even though it is good, it's a disapointment compared
to maya ( lol ) or max , lightwave...

blenders polys have a lack of tools,
I don't use nurbs but I tried and it was to conffusing,
metaballs are cool but theres no dynamics so you cannot realy
use it, animation tools could be waaaAAAAuuYYY better, and last
but not least radiosity sucks bad..

I don't want to make enemies with the blender community of
witch I am a proud part of but, I must say that it's not to be
compared to any other 3d aps quality and ability, although it might be posable in the future :|

There are Blender users who own apps like Lightwave , Maya, etc who are equally qualified in either of these apps. endi2 is a Maya user. If you followed this post your would see that he also posted a Maya render of Chumpy....... So... It's fun to compare the differences of rendering in various apps. If you where working on a project that involved using these two apps you would see where Blenders strengh is which goes beyond basic rendering and animation task, involving realtime production. And you would have Maya with it's powerful modeling and texturing tools and much more. Both apps could be used side by side to complete a 3d project.

With endi2's post we have seen some nice samples of work in Blender and Maya. We can look at how lighting was applied and uv textures. For many 3d artist on cgtalk achieving endi2's type of quality renders whould be a hard task in any app that they were to use. Hopefully enjoying renders like endi2's gives us some type of insight that will encourage us all in one area or another in our own 3d art.

My last post was obviously mistaken

endi2's work is amazing without a dout, very good work ( again ) that makes me proud ( esspecialy in blender ) but I'm not exactly a newb to maya max ( my work is fetured in the Expose'1 :D ) or blender ( look for my work in the blender community forum ), so I pretty much know what I'm talking about. blender is good, very good actualy..

but my point is that it dosn't match
up to max or maya lightwave, and to add blender rendering capabilities are
also poor.. no dof, no real reflections, no refractions, dosn't have a good shader system, the uv maping has
bugs and a lack of tools.

I'm not trying to step on feet and i'm not puting down endi2's work, I would
be a fool his work is excellent, :applause:

Hey hanzo, it's all good. BTW, whats' happening with your character Edo ? Is it still a work in progress? I want so bad to do a little piece of of 3d scene work for the cgtalk list. It's just that everything that I have one so far for a while now is 100% commerical. I havent done any personal art in years. I'm working on pulling something together to post here on cgtalk.

I have alot of urban environment scenes and styled charaters. So I should be able to alter something and post it so that it doesn't mess with the commercial project stuff.
