View Full Version : Stereoscopic Plugins or Scripts for AFX?

Hi all,
are there any stereoscopic plugins or scripts for AFX?
What I'd like to have is something which applies any effect and adjustment settings to two comps in realtime.
More detailed:
I have two comps. One called "L" and one called "R". When I add a Layer, Effect, mask, etc to one of these comps, it should do exactly the same for the other comp.
And on top of this: if I adjust a single setting, it should be adjusted in the other comp accordingly - realtime would be nice (by "realtime" I mean, that when adjusting i.e. a colorcorrector in one comp, it should adjust the according cc in the other comp before I release the mousebutton).
I know, that one could use expressions. But one has to set it up for each parameter (or is there a handy script which would do it automatically)?

I'm used to Fusion - and there it is quite easy to do all these things..... but I don't know how to do it in AFX :-(

Any help would be much appreciated.

And nor should you. Most of it is simply not possible. For scripts, look on AEnhancers.com (http://www.aenhancers.com). I clearly remember some "Slave to Master" script, but as usual I have no clue where I saw it. Effects inheritance is only possible by using pre-comps with adjustment layers. When you put them in you L and R comps and enable continuous rasterization, the effects will be calculated as if residing in the main comp, but that's it. Stereoscopic plug-ins - no clue. someone is certainly developing some as it's the new shit, but it may be a while before release...

I followed your suggestion and posted the same question on AEnhancers yesterday and it seems that there isn't much around to support a stereoscopic workflow with AFX. But maybe they will come up with something...
If there might be any more hints out there - please let me know.

I haven't done the kit yet, but Digital Tutors has a kit covering how to do stereoscopic workflows in After Effects. Just FYI.

I saw that before but thought it's only the theoretical stuff. But in fact would be interesting to see how they do it.... maybe 'll give it a try.

All you really need to do is been built into AfterEffects for some time. Import your footage both left and right eyes. Then place them in the time line- make sure they are lined up both starting on the same frame. Then create a new adjustment layer and add the built in effect called "3D Glasses" You can find this in effects>> Perspective>> 3D Glasses
