View Full Version : Character: A bodybuider (Arnold Schwarzenegger)
bigguns 07-15-2003, 06:15 AM Hi i want to share with you my bodybuilder model who look strangely familiar :)
I have some arnold reference but my goal was not to make a total replica of him, thats why some parts are differents
I've tried to push the anatomy a lot to make him look like a real bodybuilder and I made him totally animatable
tell me what you think...

Other than the back leg abnormality, everything else is superb. I bet if you put hair on that guy it would indeed look a lot like Arnold.
His package is casting a shadow, keke.
Good stuff, the top face shot looks a little like Arnold, but it needs a lot of work. The real arnold has much more defined features, and the forehead and nose aren't quite right. Still a great model... Reminds me of something from Squaresoft.

He is totally awesome.
Great freaking model. I LOVE IT!!! Did you model on the vein or are they part of the texture map?

Did you read his post? He didn't intend to make him look exactly like Arnold. Personally I find this goofy looking hairless head more interesting :)
About the model, this is one of the most impressive modelling works I've seen here for a while. Really natural.
Now, to see it animated  Speechless.

Awesome model but i think maybe the eyes/eyebrow needs a bit more work to be more arnie like, in my opinion this is area is less arnie like than the rest of the face
Excelent stuff, i think your references lacked a little exposure latitude so some of the details on the pecs got washed out, so you model looks like it has a little less detail there too, perhaps some diagonal bumping down from the center line out would help and just a touch less cg curve on the calf too. What are you going to do with the textures, will it stay like that or are you goint to go further? Blinding bit of work, I hate to think about how much time went in to it, the deformation at the shoulders is fantastic, the whole thing is for lack of a better word beautiful.

Excellent work on this model, great form and proporition in the character, it would be nice to see a small animation that shows off the rigging.
The only thing that I think could be improved is the skin texture, in the close up shot, it does look rather mottled.
Brilliant image, well done!
Hi Frank,
Nice to see you here :)

Brilliant image, well done! :)

wow, as an avid anie fan, I love it. Would love to knoow how long it took.
The skin texture does indeed look a little like standard noise, not really sure how to get away from that. Also give the veins a slight bluey/greeny hue.
Truly awsome work.

First of all Thanks for reviews, it really enjoyed me!
I give you some some statistics:
Its 3dsmax 4.2 model with character studio ringing and
28 morph target for muscular contractions
Its about 9746 polygons
Im working on a K7 600 MHZ thats why he dont have hair:)
Procedural textures for the moment when i'll update my machine i will use some hand-made textures...
This is a my character fo my demo reel that what im making right now so he will do some biceps dumble tricep, calves exercises!and a rear lat spread...
Soon i will make a image of the wireframe.
ps: I'm repeating im not looking for a perfect replica of arnold thats why the abdominal region is not the same as him...
Thanks again!

wow wow awesome work
the lower leg i think is ok (if muscle is contracted), worked a long time in a "blood and iron studio" and some of the "giants" have these hard edged muscles

wow!super body!and this man can be totally animatable?so great work!
I think it is very hard to rig this character style by character studio,
Simulating movement of muscle...oh...too difficulty of a task for me.
Could you talk about rig more?very thinks!!!

BTW:Savagedragon is mine character, modeling with 3ds max too.(you could see he by the link below if you like) It is to be regretted that I have not engough ability rig he.

First off, nice model. Excellent job in keeping him asymetrical.
Second off, the texture needs work. Skin is NOT that uniform in color. The BM is nice, but there needs to be a lot more variety in skin--ie greens and reds for under the skin veins, moles, tan lines, natural skin tones, etc. He just looks way to even. No one has skin like that.
Only one crit for the model. His love handles are too flat. (in the front) make them bulge just a bit more. (not muscular bulge, but mature men, even body builders have a bit more meat there. Your model looks a bit unnatural right there)
They look like they were ironed down. Look at your Arnold reference for um.....reference.

that's really good work. however two points of crit: the first: The thing that immediately catched my eye is the symmetry. I think the model is way too symmetric, would be good if you fixed that. I think you can also fix that with my second crit, and that's the skin. It looks a little off, cartoonish in a certain sort of way. A little darker skin and some imperfections would fix the job I guess.
but again: Very good job, especially on te anatomy.

it's amazing how far technologies can go. you've maded a perfect-shaped man, also very reallistic - I see that you've fixed his muscules in legs :) it's quite awesome work
