I've been fiddling with a character idea for the past little while, and with two weeks to go and I've finally decided to commit to a Dominance War IV submission.

Character Name: Princess Dei Volti (Princess of Faces)
Race: Norms (Human) Class: Stalker (Assassin)
Weapon: Verona's Pride (Venetian Mask)

A brief history and description of the character forthcoming.

The idea began predominantly with the image of the Volto mask, a common Venetian mask well known for its mystery and beauty. The rest of the character formed around the symbolism - anonymity, aristocracy, elegance, etc - associated with such an object.

The design is heavily Italian-renaissance inspired. Deep reds, blacks, and antique bronzes dominate the color palette. The patterns are art-nouveau inspired, featuring a combination of ornate floral motifs and delicate Victorian lace.

I don't have a concept at the moment. With such little prep time, I'm going to be doing most of the designs on the fly and hopefully be satisfied with the results.

I've already been working on the base character for a while and will submit progress screens shortly. I really hope to find time to complete this character on time, but my schedule is a little uncertain as of now..

Any comments or criticisms are welcome.

Base Mesh and Sculpt. It's heavy, but it'll be retopologized.

Hair first pass. Need to cut polys down about half to make the budget.

One piece of Verona's Pride. She won't be wearing it in the final model, but I needed to know it at least fits her face properly.

That's looking really good. Nice female proportions, and that mask is beautiful.

no base meshes buddy >.< I hope you designed this for the competition exclusively, because the rules state that everything has to be fresh. But if you did I'm really excited to see this model it looks amazing! Any concepts to see where it's going?

M-Cubed: Thanks for the compliments.

Ghostesper: I did begin work on the base mesh before I considered entering the contest, but that was after the contest began. Only when I was confident in my skill level did I consider submitting her. I can guarantee I had no idea where the design was going until 4 days ago (when I formally entered), not even a concept - I'm just kind of throwing her together at the moment. But you bring up a good point for me to mention, which I've added below. Thanks for your comments.

On the point of full disclosure, the patterns on the mask are modified versions of a design I found online. I reorganized, cleaned up, and redesigned it to work as a Zbrush Alpha. So I didn't technically make those myself. If anyone can clarify whether that violate the rules or not please let me know.

Beautiful work man! Are you going to leave her naked ?

keep up!

I don't know, do you think I'll have a better chance of winning if I do? :p

It's come to my attention that I am being too stingy with progress shots, so here are some current elements I'm working on. These include: a hair barrette, boots, earrings, and a blouse/corset combination.

I think they all look terrible at the moment, which is why I'd prefer not to show them, but rules are rules.

Some earrings. Might be repurposed into a necklace of some sort.http://jyao.fatcow.com/earrings.jpg
