The tutorials that come with max would probably be your best place to start... no?

Josh, i know this isnt what you want to hear...it wasnt for me either...
But do the tutorials...at least the modeling ones that come with 3DStudio...i know they are kinda...ok, really boring, but they do give you a good foundation, then move on from there...
Just cause the tutorial doesnt deal with the kind of model you want to create, it gives you the basic building blocks, and from there you can do anything...

Beginner tutorials usually revolve around blocks and spheres. It takes a bit of practice and interface familiarization to get up to making badass cars and whatnot.
Thank you for your feed back I will do the tutorials that came with the software I guess, thanks.
How am I suppose to do a tutorial if its just a model file? there are no walkthrews let alone something explaining how to do it they just give me models?

Here is a sword tutorial. The guys above me though are totaly right. For beginner stuff you really need to do the tutorials that came with the box. You might find this a bit advanced and get discouraged.
You could also do what I did and hit up some free classes. I know your not in San Diego like me, but these are free classes and great fun.

Might be some in your area though if you know where to look. It appears the government funds free classes to help people learn new technology. Put your tax dollars to work for you :)
